Rich: That's gotta be the fastest ever.

It is, beating Louis Saha's opener for Everton against Chelsea after 25 seconds in 2009.

Thirteen seconds! Unlucky for Manchester United. Absolute joy for Manchester City's fans.

    Man City 1-0 Man Utd

    Chris Sutton
Former Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's an unbelievable strike from Gundogan and De gea is just rooted. All sorts of dip on that ball! What a start to the game.

What did I say just before kick-off about Manchester City and their fast starts?

Admittedly, I did not expect one quite as fast as that.

Manchester United did not get themselves organised.

For them, that was a complete disaster.

That goal at 13 seconds is, unsurprisingly, the fastest ever scored in an FA Cup final.

  6. 'Moment of brilliance'published at 15:04 British Summer Time 3 June 2023

    Man City 1-0 Man Utd

    Jermaine Jenas
Former England midfielder on BBC One

It's a team that we are so used to seeing play out from the back but here they go back to Stefan Ortega and then long to Erling Haaland.

It's just a moment of brilliance from the Manchester City captain. The technique is something else. Ilkay Gudogan has stepped up with important goals at the end of the season and he's done it again.

Ilkay Gündogan's incredible strike puts Man City ahead after just 13 seconds

    WOW!

What an incredible start by Manchester City. From the kick off, the ball is played to Stefan Ortega, who hits it long and the ball is knocked on by Kevin de Bruyne to Ilkay Gundogan, who thunders a brilliant volley into the back of the net from the edge of the box.

Just 13 seconds on the clock and Manchester City are ahead. Stunning stuff.

From Sir Alex Ferguson's demeanour, you can tell he is up for this game.

After bringing the trophy out with Mike Summerbee, he saluted the Manchester United fans with a familiar clenched fist, then he shook Erik ten Hag's hand and gave him a slap on the back as the teams came out.

It is 2007 since he last managed in an FA Cup final, when United lost to Chelsea. It is 2004 since he won one.

I bet he wishes he could turn the clock back.

Mark: As a local unattached onlooker I think United should resist playing out from the back. City will swarm all over them and add to that de Gea's poor passing, disaster looms. Old fashioned long ball with flick ons for United's speedy forwards

Andrew: An awful lot of things all need to fall in favour of Manchester United today if they are to lift the FA Cup and end City’s treble bid. United have a real lack of impact quality from the bench, especially when compared with Pep’s options.

Before Manchester United won the last derby at Old Trafford in January, Manchester City had come out on top in the previous three.

In every one of those meetings, they scored inside the first 10 minutes.

It goes without saying Pep Guardiola's side will look to make an equally fast start today - and United will be desperate to stop them.
