  4. Barcelona 'mentality has changed'published at 11:58 British Summer Time 3 June 2023

    Barcelona v Wolfsburg (15.00 BST)

Lucy Bronze, along with Lionesses team-mate Keira Walsh, joined the Spanish league champions last summer from Manchester City.

Barcelona are looking to regain their Champions League title at a sold-out PSV Stadium, having lost their crown to Lyon last year.

It is their third final in a row and fourth in five seasons, although their only success came in their 2021 victory over Chelsea. Bronze was part of the Lyon side that beat them in the 2019 final, but believes Barcelona are a very different team now.

"Although there were a lot of similar players playing for Barcelona as what there are now, the lack of experience they had going into that game compared to the experience the Lyon team had was probably the most noticeable thing," she added.

"That's the one thing Barcelona have improved on the most.

"They have always been talented technically and tactically - you've seen that with how Spain play and how Barcelona have always played. But the experiences they have had now across Champions Leagues, I think this team is quite different mentality-wise to that team I faced in 2019.

"Lyon had the upper hand over every single team in Europe in terms of mentality at that time because they were serial winners. But now things are changing and more teams are competing and growing that mentality and Barcelona are obviously one of them."

  5. Bronze 'excited' for her fourth Champions League finalpublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 3 June 2023

    Barcelona v Wolfsburg (15.00 BST)

England and Barcelona defender Lucy Bronze is just as pumped to play in her fourth Women's Champions League final as she was the first time she reached the European showpiece.

The 31-year-old's Barcelona side will face two-time winners Wolfsburg in the final in Eindhoven.

Bronze has been passed fit to play after she had knee surgery in April.

She previously won the Champions League with French side Lyon for three straight years between 2018 and 2020.

"People say 'you've won it three times', but I won it with a very different team at a different time in my career," Bronze told the BBC's World Service.

"I had to change teams, adapt again, get to a final again, so it is a little bit different.

"I'm as excited for this game as I was for my very first final with Lyon. I'm quite proud of the fact that I've been capable of making the final five years ago and then later on in my career I've managed to do it again.

"It's something I'm really happy about but I'm not too fussed whether it's [with] two, or three or five different teams, it doesn't matter. I just want to win the final with whichever team I'm playing for."

The Scottish Cup also traditionally kicks off at 3pm on a Saturday - however it will instead start at 5.30pm today to avoid clashing with the FA Cup final.

Here, fans and clubs react to the final being shifted from its usual time.

  8. Can Super Caley go ballistic again?published at 11:47 British Summer Time 3 June 2023

    Celtic v Inverness (17.30 BST)

Inverness Caledonian Thistle, a relative newcomer to the Scottish game having been instituted by the union of two clubs in 1994, have become synonymous with Scottish Cup surprises in their short history.

Their first big statement came in 2000 when they won 3-1 at Celtic Park, a result that ultimately cost John Barnes his job as Celtic manager.

Three years later, they defeated Martin O'Neill's Uefa Cup final-bound Celtic 1-0 in the Highlands.

And, in 2015, it was Inverness who quashed Celtic's hopes of a domestic treble with a 3-2 semi-final win en route to winning their first major trophy.

The odds, though, are heavily stacked against Dodds' Championship side today. The huge disparity in resources makes Saturday's contest a David v Goliath fixture.

Inverness CT manager Billy Dodds, however, insists another major shock could be on the cards.

He said this week: "We're going to need a bit of luck and top-notch performances from my players.

"This competition's all about miracles and they do happen. We're going there with the mindset we can win the game."

  9. Postecoglou targets the one that got awaypublished at 11:44 British Summer Time 3 June 2023

    Celtic v Inverness (17.30 BST)

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou was bidding for a domestic clean sweep last season until Rangers triumphed in extra time of the Old Firm semi-final. But defeating Rangers in the last four has given his side the chance to go one better this season.

The League Cup was retained in February, with the Premiership title secured three months later.

As things stand, Celtic and Rangers have each won the treble seven times. Celtic can nudge themselves in front with victory on Saturday and further increase their national record of 40 Scottish Cups.

It would also be Celtic's 115th major domestic honour.

Celtic defender Alistair Johnston said this week: "I know the extraordinary has become ordinary a little bit at this club with how many trophies they have lifted over the past decade. But still, for guys like myself, this would be my third ever trophy.

"I am just really excited to be in a position where I could potentially be walking out of here after six months with a treble.

"That is more than I could have asked for, but when I came in those were the expectations, that was what was put on me - it's trophies or nothing."

  10. How many finals would you like today?published at 11:42 British Summer Time 3 June 2023

Not just one, or two, but three major cup finals are taking place today.

As well as the FA Cup final, the Women's Champions League final between Barcelona and Wolfsburg also kicks off at 3pm in Eindhoven - we will have live text coverage on the BBC Sport website.

We will also have coverage from the Scottish Cup final this evening at Hampden Park, where Celtic are looking to complete a domestic treble - only second tier Inverness Caledonian Thistle stand in their way.

What a fantastic day of football.

My prediction: United to go 2 up in the first half, giving us United fans around the world a false sense of optimism, then City to win 4-2 in extra time.

There's going to be plenty of cheers and tears as families with divided loyalties watch the FA Cup final unfold.

Brothers Cian, 13, and Ruairi, 9, from Cheshire are all smiles now. But later?

Manchester United fan Cian reckons Erik ten Hag's side will win 2-1. Manchester City fan Ruairi, unsurprisingly, is going for a 3-1 win for Pep Guardiola's side.

We're around four hours from kick-off and there is a relaxed atmosphere around Wembley with fans from both clubs mixing together.

There is a big police presence but the sun is out and the ice cream vans are busy.

Man City v Man Utd (15.00 BST)

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

We [Newcastle] played in two FA Cup finals - Arsenal were going for the double in 1998, they got the double. Man Utd were going for the treble in 1999, they got the treble.

It wasn't to be, but I totally get that United fans and players, there will be a small part of them thinking, not only can we win this but we can ruin their party as well.

If Man City do win this, like that 1999 United team, they will be immortalised and have a great chance of winning that treble.

On which team he thinks is better - 1999 Manchester United or 2023 Manchester City: "Ask me next week!"

These were the two FA Cup finals that Shearer played in. Teddy Sheringham and Paul Scholes scored the goals as Sir Alex Ferguson's side completed the Treble with their Champions League triumph four days later.

Shearer: "It is not your dream to play in a cup final, it is your dream to win it. Wembley is no place for losing - if you're on the losing team it's horrific. I hit the post in the Arsenal game at 1-0 and I can remember thinking it would hit the post and go in but it didn't - it was horrific."

The real questions are, is this Manchester United's biggest game since Fergie's departure and if City win the treble is that the official changing of the guard? Personally don't see United allowing this today, they will find a way to win 1-0.

This was the first FA Cup final to take place outside of England due to Wembley's reconstruction. It was the Reds' second trophy of the season, after winning the League Cup, and they went on to win the Uefa Cup four days later. This is the last time Arsenal lost an FA Cup final - they've won seven since!

Richards: "Arsenal battered them and you expected them to go and win it. I played with Owen for England but he wasn't at his best then. It was around 2006 and he was just a goalscorer, you knew he would put it in."

This was Coventry's first domestic cup final where six minutes into the extra half-hour centre-back Gary Mabbutt scored an unfortunate own goal. BBC TV commentator John Motson calling it "the finest cup final I've had the pleasure of commentating on" at the time.

Shearer: "I can remember Keith Houchen's diving header, the cross came in from the right and he flung himself at that diving header, that's what I remember about that cup final. Mabbutt scored an own goal - it's bad enough losing in a final but then scoring an own goal."

Left-back Stuart Pearce gave Nottingham Forest the lead, before a Paul Stewart goal 10 minutes after the break forced extra-time. A Des Walker own goal, four minutes into the extra half-hour, gave Spurs a then-record eighth title.

Lineker: "I missed a penalty that day. Like in 1986 with Everton, when I scored the goal and we lost I felt gutted in that way, but we won and it didn't matter. I hadn't won much in my career."
