  1. 'England not winning individual duels'published at 09:37 British Summer Time 7 August 2023

    England 0-0 Nigeria

    Karen Bardsley
Former England and Manchester City goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

What we saw so much of in the games against China and in the build up games, England were winning the majority of their one v one duels.

At the moment we're just not seeing that at all.

    England 0-0 Nigeria

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
    Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC One

Both teams have continued exactly how they finished. Again, it's too easy for Nigeria down the left handside.

  3. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 47 mins

    England 0-0 Nigeria

    They've hit the bar again!

A cross from the left is swung into the mixer and met by the rising Uchenna Kanu. She is high above Rachel Daly but sends her header against the woodwork and then looping on to the roof of the net.

No mention of the p-word yet please. I don't think my nerves could take it.

    Alex Scott
Former England and Arsenal defender on BBC One

This World Cup has been a wake up to teams like America because teams have caught them up and figured them out. On Sunday, they looked lost.

Some England fans complaining about VAR - but they were happy enough when it gifted England a penalty v Haiti, a decision no England player claimed for.

I think Asisat Oshoala is the juggernaut and if she enters the party at 0-0 it will be advantage Nigeria.

    Anon

England should count themselves lucky that Oshoala and Oparanozie are not on the pitch yet.

Lee: Quite an even first half, with Nigeria having the better chances so far. This genuinely could go either way, and I'm quite nervous about the second half. England definitely need to change something up top.

  9. 'England need to play quicker'published at 09:33 British Summer Time 7 August 2023

    HT: England 0-0 Nigeria

    Anita Asante
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

England need to play through the thirds quicker. We are not using well possession enough, or that switch of play either.

We aren't committing enough numbers into the box because of that fear of transition too.

    HT: England 0-0 Nigeria

    Jonas Eidevall
    Arsenal manager on BBC One

England need to move the ball faster and the players being tightly marked need to make off the ball movements. I haven't seen Lauren James making a really deep run.

  11. England having to call on Earpspublished at 09:32 British Summer Time 7 August 2023

    HT: England 0-0 Nigeria

    Alex Scott
Former England and Arsenal defender on BBC One

My worry is how many times this World Cup England are having to call on Mary Earps. You don't want your goalkeeper to be bringing out big saves every game.

Former England striker on BBC One

I really like that decision. It shows the strength of VAR. The referee has the ability to relook at their decision and be able to hold up their hands and say I got that decision wrong.

  15. 'Smart by Daly'published at 09:29 British Summer Time 7 August 2023

    England 0-0 Nigeria

    Alex Scott
Former England and Arsenal defender on BBC One

It is being smart by Rachel Daly, she stops and it makes it look like she has been pushed over.

    Ellen White
Former England striker on BBC One

There was a little bit of contact. I don't think it's a penalty. It would have been soft and fair play to the ref for going to VAR.

We'd have loved a penalty but it's the right decision.

  17. 'All credit to Nigeria'published at 09:29 British Summer Time 7 August 2023

    HT: England 0-0 Nigeria

    Anita Asante
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

We expected England to use the momentum from the big win against China to start this game full of energy and linking up well.

All credit has to go to Nigeria, they have come out, been brave and committed a lot of numbers forward.

They are ranked 40th in the world but certainly aren't playing that way.

  18. Frustrating half for Englandpublished at 09:29 British Summer Time 7 August 2023

    HT: England 0-0 Nigeria

    Emma Sanders
    BBC Sport at Brisbane Stadium

It's been a frustrating half. Nigeria have played well but England have just been... flat.

Sarina Wiegman didn't hang around for the players on the whistle and went straight down the tunnel before any of her staff members.

Lucy Bronze flapped her arms at one of her team-mates in frustration.

It's not clicking like it did against China. Wiegman will need to tweak something.

Why is Toone not playing. Her link up play with Russo needed.

    Anon

How many more times are England going to break and no support, far too slow. Bronze was up, best play was a cross, she plays it back.

Eddie: Nigeria on top in this game. Another World Cup shock on the cards?

  20. Postpublished at 09:22 British Summer Time 7 August 2023

It's confusing why this is such a shock for England. They would have done their homework. I'm surprised they didn't understand the intensity Nigeria had.
