Sneakily watching at work, it seems like the Aussies have taken the same approach as their counterparts in the ashes, very defensive so far!

    Nick from Didcot

Watching from our hotel lobby bar in sunny northern Croatia! Come on the lionesses!

    Mary, Walter and family

What a ball in from Alex Greenwood, lofts it over the defence and into the feet of Georgia Stanway.

A good save from her feet from Mackenzie Arnold but a great chance for Stanway.

The corner is scrappy but Australia eventually clear. What a start.

Brilliant ball from Alex Greenwood. Beautiful well timed run from Stanway. Immaculate contact. Brilliant save and positioning by Mackenzie Arnold.

    England should be 1-0 up!

Straight down the other end Alex Greenwood dinks one over the defence for Georgia Stanway.

The midfielder has time, volleying goalwards but Mackenize Arnold sticks out a boot.

    Emma Sanders
    BBC Sport at Stadium Australia

It may have been offside but the whole stadium were on their feet for that Sam Kerr chance and it will be one for Mary Earps to bank in her head. So far she's 1-0 up against the deadly goalscorer. It's a confidence boost.

  8. 'Offside or not that's a boost for Earps'published at 11:09 British Summer Time 16 August 2023

    Australia 0-0 England

    Karen Bardsley
Former England and Manchester City goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

The ball needed saving and it is a good block from Mary Earps.

Offside or not, that will give huge confidence to the England goalkeeper.

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
    Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC One

Sam Kerr will have been relishing the opportunity to go up against Mary Earps.

So many times in that rivalry, Kerr has come out on top. Great save from Earps.

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 8 mins

    Australia 0-0 England

A massive moment already as a ball over the top sends Sam Kerr clear!

There's no flag, the Chelsea star is one-on-one, but Mary Earps stands tall and keeps her out with her feet.

After the shot the move's given offside. It wouldn't have counted but what a statement from the England stopper.

  11. 'Interesting to see if Toone does anything different'published at 11:08 British Summer Time 16 August 2023

    Australia 0-0 England

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
    Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC One

It will be interesting to see if Ella Toone does anything different to get herself into the game. She has not been anywhere near as effective as we were used to seeing in the Euros.

  12. 'Narrow approach from Matildas'published at 11:07 British Summer Time 16 August 2023

    Australia 0-0 England

    Karen Bardsley
Former England and Manchester City goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

You can see a really narrow approach from Australia.

Sam Kerr is leading the press centrally, with Mary Fowler following close behind - both of them getting around Keira Walsh and looking to mark her out of the game.

Hayley Raso on the left hand side is really tucking in and trying to stop the crosses coming in from that wing.

Now Australia have a go at playing the ball round the back. It's eventually launched forward but England win the first header.

It's tense and tactical. It feels like a semi-final.

The obvious match up tonight is specifically Millie Bright against Sam Kerr. What a heavyweight tussle that is.

England's Millie Bright launches the ball forward but the Australia defence deal with it well.

Keira Walsh is then late on Sam Kerr. Not a card but definitely a foul.
