Having moved to Sydney 6 months ago, I’m tragically flying back to London for a visit right on kick off time. Hoping to watch the Lionesses bring home in the air - they can do that right?! The answer is yes!

  7. 'Russo has got to get across Arnold from that angle'published at 11:19 British Summer Time 16 August 2023

    Australia 0-0 England

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
    Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC One

Alessia Russo has got to get across the goalkeeper from that angle. It just drifts wider and wider which makes it harder to do so.

    Australia 0-0 England

Australia have gaps at the back and England capitalise. Mary Earps goes long and Ella Toone flicks it on to Alessia Russo.

The forward shoots from a very tight angle and can only find the side-netting.

  9. 'Australia stretching the play with switches'published at 11:17 British Summer Time 16 August 2023

    Australia 0-0 England

    Karen Bardsley
Former England and Manchester City goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's amazing how Australia go from being so narrow out of possession to really stretching the pitch, making it enormous with those switches of play to their wide full backs.

Carter vs Foord; 100% Arsenal fan supporting Chelsea in that battle today. C'mon you lionesses!

    Stuart in sunny Devon

Much better here than in previous games. Good calmness on the ball and some great incisive passes. Come on Lionesses!

Here's that earlier Sam Kerr chance. It wouldn't have counted though.

  12. Postpublished at 16 mins

Cool as you like from England keeper Mary Earps as the Lionesses build from the back.

They go forward with Lauren Hemp but the forward is hustled and harried and loses possession.

    Australia 0-0 England

    Rachel Brown-Finnis

Rachel Daly will be disappointed with that, she prides herself on being good at heading the ball, especially from corners.

From the corner Rachel Daly heads over.

Both teams will be happy with their starts. England could have been ahead.

    Karen Bardsley
Former England and Manchester City goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Both teams are really building into this match now.

I think it is going to ultimately be decided by a mistake, and who can capitalise on it first.

  17. Clear plan for Kerrpublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 16 August 2023

    Australia 0-0 England

    Emma Sanders
    BBC Sport at Stadium Australia

It's pretty clear what England's instructions have been in terms of dealing with Sam Kerr.

Do not let her run at you.

That's a foul from Keira Walsh and Alex Greenwood to stop her getting away on the break. It's frustrating the fans too. But Greenwood now has to play almost 80 minutes on a booking.

Owen: Amazing saves at both ends! They've started at a frenetic pace, not sure I'll be able to keep it up!

Kayleigh: Attempt for Aus followed immediately by an attempt for Eng. My heart cannot take this.

  19. 'No doubt that was a yellow'published at 11:12 British Summer Time 16 August 2023

    Australia 0-0 England

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
    Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC One

No doubt that is a yellow for Alex Greenwood.

These players come up against Sam Kerr week in week out but this won't deter Kerr on bit. We know that.

    Australia 0-0 England

End-to-end now as Caitlin Forward comes down the left for Australia, firing in a crisp cross which Alex Greenwood just heads away.

What was I saying about this being tense and tactical? Scrap that, it's free-flowing and epic.
