Clever run from Lauren Hemp and the two defenders who don't deal with the ball over the top.

    Such precision from Hemp.

The highs and lows of football.

Lauren Hemp has deserved that, she has been phenomenal.

She capitalised from that misjudgement from Carpenter to take a snapshot into the bottom corner. Arnold no chance.

GOAL - Australia 1-2 Englandpublished at 71 mins

    Lauren Hemp

    ENGLAND HAVE THEIR LEAD BACK!

It's route-one stuff as centre-back Millie Bright goes long. Australia don't deal with it and Lauren Hemp gets in between two defenders before prodding the ball into the bottom corner.

    The perfect response.

Really clever header from Alessia Russo, just agonisingly wide. Beautiful ball from Lauren Hemp to find her strike partner.

England come again as Lauren Hemp's cross finds Alessia Russo in the box, but her header is placed narrowly wide of the target.

It might have even clipped the outside of the post.

I didn't think the noise levels could get any louder in the stadium but they certainly did when Sam Kerr scored.

The fans are willing the Matildas on to victory here. It's game on.

    Australia 1-1 England

    Emma Sanders

You should hear the noise in here. It's gone wild. Sam Kerr scored a volley against Mary Earps, chipping her in the process, in the final game of the WSL season in 2021-22 that was almost identical to that strike. She looks really up for it now.

A very difficult corner for England keeper Mary Earps to deal with. It's heading in but the stopper manages to claw the ball away.

  20. 'What a script Kerr has written for this tournament'published at 12:23 British Summer Time 16 August 2023

    Australia 1-1 England

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
    Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC One

I thought one of the best strikers against one of the best defenders in Sam Kerr and Millie Bright, who is going to come out on top?

Look at that. That is simply unstoppable. She just cuts it on to her right foot. She has a little look.

    What injury?

    That just absolutely flies.

It takes a little nick of Millie Bright's knee but it was going in anyway.

Simply sensational. What a script she has written for this tournament.
