Lucky to be in stadium as a Brit living in Oz, England significantly more skilful and composed on ball. Crowd going quieter by the minute in that half!

  6. 'Australia like to absorb pressure'published at 11:56 British Summer Time 16 August 2023

    HT: Australia 0-1 England

    Alex Scott
Former England and Arsenal defender on BBC One

Australia have done this throughout the tournament, they like to absorb the pressure and wait for you to make the mistake and then they can hit you on the counter.

England are having to be patient to find the spaces and I think they can exploit space down the Australian left-hand side.

Me and my son watching in a beach bar in Montenegro. Montenegrins not much into the game, lots of strange looks as the two of us leapt off our seats celebrating Toone’s strike. What a hit! Come on the Lionesses!

    Jim and Benji from Kingston

Incredibly balanced performance from the Lionesses so far. Fierce in defence and creative in attack. More of the same please

  9. 'No coincidence Toone and Stanway involved in chances'published at 11:53 British Summer Time 16 August 2023

    HT: Australia 0-1 England

    Jonas Eidevall
    Arsenal manager on BBC One

England are finding solutions because Australia are in a mid block, and really tight to the forwards. This opens up space for attacking midfielders.

It is not a coincidence that Ella Toone and Georgia Stanway have been involved in the goalscoring opportunities.

Ella Toone is only the third player to score for the Lionesses in a Women's World Cup semi-final, after Fara Williams in 2015 and Ellen White in 2019.

It's the first time England have been ahead at this stage of the tournament.

A good omen for the Lionesses?

So far, so good for England.

It's been a really good performance. They have broken down Australia's rhythm and frustrated the crowd.

It was a fairly polite applause from the home fans at half-time. England are controlling things and have the lead.

    Karen Bardsley

What a pure strike from Toone and great creativity from Russo, who fights and fights to create something from nothing.

She set it up for Ella Toone to absolutely wallop it into the top corner.
