Manchester City breezed through the group stage, finishing unbeaten at the top of Group G, five points clear of Borussia Dortmund.

They won all their games at Etihad Stadium, while beating Sevilla home and away en route to the knockout stages.

In the last 16 they beat German side RB Leipzig 8-1 on aggregate and saw off Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.

The semi-final saw City face their toughest test so far as they played 14-time champions Real Madrid. The first leg in Spain finished 1-1 before City won 4-0 at home to reach the final.

Two defeats from their six group games saw Inter Milan finish second in Group C behind Bayern Munich but they finished ahead of Barcelona after beating them 1-0 at home and then drawing 3-3 in Spain.

They overcame Porto and Benfica in the knockout stages to set up a semi-final with city rivals AC Milan, who they beat 3-0 on aggregate.

    BBC World Service

Speaking to BBC World Service, the Vice President of the Turkish Football Federation has assured there won’t be a repeat of the disorder which marred last year’s final in Paris.

Nuket Kucukel Ezberci says her country is "ready" to host a "safe and smooth" event, which "they are going to be proud of."

"This is Istanbul, and Istanbul is very much accustomed to hosting international events, not only in sports but in the political arena as well," she said.

"Nothing is going to happen. Everything is going to be safe and smooth, and we are going to be proud of it.

"Of course, after what had happened in Paris, all the reports that were issued into what happened have been a great guideline for us.

"We don’t want to repeat what happened in Paris. All our police and protocol departments have been working together with Uefa - so we are all ready."

  3. Dzeko facing former clubpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 10 June 2023

Inter Milan could be spearheaded by a 37-year-old who was cast off by Manchester City eight years ago.

Edin Dzeko's goals helped propel the Sky Blues to two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and an EFL Cup.

For Inter, the striker could cap off his star-studded career with a Champions League winners' medal having already scored the crucial opener in his side's semi-final win over bitterest rivals AC Milan.

If anyone can stop Pep Guardiola's all-conquering side, it might just be the "intelligent", "influential" forward out to seek revenge on his former club.

Inter Milan's end at this sweeping Ataturk Srtadium is already very well populated and there is plenty of noise coming from those wearing the famous blue and black.

There also seem to be some preparations under way for the traditional Champions League opening ceremony - or should I say the traditional pre-match trip into the world of the surreal.

Asked about the secrets to his success, Guardiola said: "I had Lionel Messi in the past and Erling Haaland now."

They will complete the Treble with victory at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.

Pep Guardiola's side have already won the Premier League and FA Cup this season.

Manchester United are currently the only English men's side to have won the Treble - Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League - achieving the feat in 1998-99.

It is the second time in three years City have reached the Champions League final, losing to Chelsea in 2020-21.
