  1. ‘Madrid think Bellingham can be a Ballon d’Or winner’published at 13:17 British Summer Time 8 June 2023

Jude Bellingham is a strategic signing. Real Madrid think he can be a Ballon d’Or winner. He is also one of the faces of Adidas, who host Real Madrid.

There is a lot of growth in him. But if things don’t go well, the market is England. Bellingham himself thought, ‘should I go to England or to Madrid?’ But this train only passes once in your life. Go to Madrid with the hope of going to England at some point.

  2. Only Hazard cost Madrid morepublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 8 June 2023

The Bundesliga's player of the season will also become the second-most expensive English footballer and Real Madrid's second-most expensive signing after Eden Hazard's 115m euro move from Chelsea in 2019.

In April, Liverpool dropped out of the race to sign Bellingham because of the cost involved. Asked about Bellingham at the time, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp compared talk of big-money transfers to a "child wanting a Ferrari for Christmas".

When Bellingham left Birmingham for Dortmund for £25m, becoming the most expensive 17-year-old in the history of football, the Championship side were mocked by some for retiring the teenager's shirt number, despite him only playing one full season of professional football.

He excelled at Dortmund and in October last year he made history by becoming the club's youngest captain aged 19.

Bellingham has played 42 times for his club this season - scoring 14 goals and registering seven assists.

  3. ‘New era for Real Madrid’published at 13:04 British Summer Time 8 June 2023

    Guillem Balague
Spanish football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

Jude Bellingham is going to go for 103 million euros with bonuses depending on performances. He’s signed until 2029.

Manchester City had known for a bit that he had decided Madrid was his next destination. Pep Guardiola really wanted him; I think City would like to see or Jamal Musiala is for sale but it is Bayern Munich so it probably won’t happen.

It is a new era for Real Madrid, they are looking for new energy and to make the [Aurelien] Tchouamenis, the [Eduardo] Camavingas, the [Federico] Valverdes and the Vinicius Jrs the key for next season.

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed in a statement that the Spanish side have agreed to pay 103m euros, with various potential add-ons on top of that.

If those add-ons are achieved, the deal could reach 133.9m euros (£115m).

Manchester City and Liverpool were two of the sides keen on Bellingham, who is set to become the world's third-most expensive teenager.

  5. Bellingham agrees Real Madrid movepublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 8 June 2023

Guillem Balague has written the story on this move, writing: "Real Madrid have agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund to sign England midfielder Jude Bellingham for 103m euros (£88.5m).

"The 19-year-old, who joined Dortmund from Birmingham City in July 2020, was one of England's top performers at last year's World Cup.

"Bellingham wants the move and will have a medical in the next few days.

"The midfielder, who has been linked with some of Europe's top sides, will sign a six-year deal."

Australian international Caitlin Foord has had a great season amid Arsenal's injury crisis.

Stars such as Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead were ruled out early on in the season but the club managed to reach the Women's Champions League semi-finals and finish in the top three of the WSL. The achievements were in part thanks to Foord, who scored 11 goals and made nine assists this campaign.

She joins the likes of Frida Maanum, Steph Catley and Lia Walti in extending her time at the club.

Head coach Jonas Eidevall also said: "Caitlin is an integral part of our team so we're all delighted by the news that she has signed a new contract.

"She is one of the best forwards in the world and has performed to a consistently high standard for us during my time here, providing some crucial goals and delivering on the biggest stages. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together next season and Caitlin will play a key role in that."

There is always the low for a team if there is a high for another and Fiorentina suffered heartbreak at the death last night. Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano:"We lost two finals playing really well, and it's a shame.

"Tonight I honestly didn't imagine it could finish like this. We played well, had chances, immediately equalised after a penalty that could have finished us. We reacted, we had a great chance with Mandragora. Then with a ball contested in the middle, we did not make the right movement in defence, and it was all over.

    "The lads were destroyed."

Steve Lawley: I have been supporting West Ham for 53 years and last night the winning goal from Bowen tops the lot. It beats the double hat trick I saw from Geoff Hurst when West Ham won against Sunderland in the 1960’s.

    Harry RedknappImage source, Getty Images

Former West Ham manager Harry Redknapp has had his say on West Ham's famous win.

He said: "Fantastic night. A last minute goal. What a way to finish the game. And when you saw the scenes the crowd, just how happy they were, to see people, the players, it was a great night. A great night for West Ham. Brilliant.

"The last European win was back in ’65. That was when Bobby [Moore] went up. West Ham won the FA Cup ’64. Cup Winners’ Cup ’65. And obviously Bobby [Moore] obviously the following year, three years at Wembley, picked up the World Cup. And then a couple of FA Cup wins since in between but the first European trophy since ’65. Great achievement really proud of them – all the players and the club. All of them.

"It was a tight game. It could have gone either way. But once [Jarrod] Bowen went through – I think he’s been a great player for West Ham. A great signing. And I had no doubt that when he broke away he was going to score. He [doesn’t] miss too often."
