  2. 'Greatest manager of all time'published at 17:54 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

    Julien Laurens
French football expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

For all the control City have been searching for, in the second half there was no control whatsoever. But yet again they won the trophy.

This is for all the games in the last seasons they've deserved to win, Lyon, Spurs, Real Madrid last year.

Rodri has to be the player of the season. If you look at the key moments he's been an incredible play.

Pep Guardiola has now won two trebles. That is why he is the greatest manager of all time.

  3. 'Best club football team in world'published at 17:50 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport in Istanbul

It has taken Pep Guardiola 12 years and a lot of frustration to win the Champions League again.

Manchester City did not play well, they have also, clearly, spent a lot of money and there are issues hanging over them that, as Guardiola says, need sorting out soon for everyone's benefit.

However, no-one can deny Guardiola has built the best club football team in the world.

This season, they have proved it.

  5. 'It's just fantastic'published at 17:37 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

    BBC Radio Manchester

Former City midfielder Jeff Whitley, who played more than 115 games for the club in the 1990s and early 2000s, told BBC Radio Manchester that the win might be a bigger deal for older fans: “The real older older generation, some of those might have thought they’d never see City win the Champions League.

"Some of the younger generation, they don’t really know any different, they’ve just seen this fantastic free-flowing football.. For them to way the won they did, these lads , and the staff – just fantastic.”

Lovely to read Gareth Southgate offer City his congratulations. When Pep won the treble with Barca, Spain went on to win the World Cup in 2010. When Bayern won the treble in 2013, Germany won the World Cup in 2014. Just saying ...

  7. 'Guardiola is an innovator'published at 17:21 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

For me even if he had not won last night he still goes down as one of the best managers of all time. He is n innovator. He has changed the way we look at football. He is doing things with centre backs and full backs we have never seen before. For me he is a special manager. If you look at his record, he won three consecutive championships at Barcelona. Three consecutive at Bayern Munich. Three consecutive league titles at City. It is an incredible achievement.

Now he has won the champion League, everyone said it was because of Messi [at Barcelona]. Now he has won it without Messi. He is an incredible manager.

As we wait for some more photos of Man City arriving home, there is other football news to bring you.

Brighton's Lewis Dunk has had to withdraw from the England squad to play Euro qualifiers because of injury.

The Football Association said: "Lewis Dunk has withdrawn from the England squad due to injury, while Jude Bellingham will also play no part in this month’s UEFA EURO 2024 qualifiers.

"The Brighton & Hove Albion defender is the only player from Gareth Southgate’s original 25-man squad not due to report to St. George’s Park this week.

"However, Bellingham will spend time at the national football centre to continue his rehabilitation on the injury that ruled him out of Borussia Dortmund’s season finale."

  9. 'The end result was incredible'published at 17:07 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

    RodriImage source, Getty Images

Rodri continued: "I think it was the only time I went forward in the game because Inter were so narrow and I wanted to make sure the two strikers weren't comfortable.

"In that moment I just saw the space. In the first moment I thought about shooting strong but then I realised there were six or seven players in the goal area and I was like, 'no, I'm going to put it inside the first post'.

"The end result was incredible but there was half an hour still to go so it was a big effort from all of us."

And he added on players who have helped City progress: "I said when I finished the game I don't want to forget players like Fernandinho, Sergio (Aguero), David Silva, (Vincent) Kompany - many players who worked eight, nine, 10 years at this club to help it arrive at this level.

"We take the fruits (of their labour) and this victory is for all of them."

  10. 'I scored most important goal in City's history'published at 17:00 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

    RodriImage source, Getty Images

There has been a lot said about Rodri and his winning goal from the Champions League final but here is what the star himself had to say about it, telling PA: "From my point of view I want to thank the team. It's a victory of many years of work at this amazing club.

"They trusted me to come here, even though the change wasn't easy. It was a new culture for me and I arrive now scoring the most important goal in the history of this club.

"We deserve this. What a season. We deserve it.

"I said this before the game it was so important to win against Inter because we can build a legacy for the future. This is what teams like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, AC Milan - these kind of clubs - did in the past.

"We believe we can do it again. I think that's why it's so important."

Inter Milan's manager Simone Inzaghi says his club will one again bid for Champions League glory and the final loss is valuable experience. "The players have gained experience and we will try to do it again," Inzaghi said.

"We have lost a few games but those defeats are no match for the thrills brought by the games and silverware we have won.

"In the last 20 months we have played three finals and one was in the Champions League... if you get used to playing this sort of match that can only be good thing."

  13. Inter welcomed by fanspublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 11 June 2023
