Rich Greenaway: I see more legends in the Man Utd team. If this City team can do it for a couple more seasons (league/cup doubles or Champion Leagues), then they will surpass them.

If someone had told me in the aftermath of Manchester United's Treble in 1999 that the next English team to do it would be Manchester City, I wouldn't have believed them.

When United did it by beating Bayern Munich in Barcelona, City had just escaped from the third tier of English football.

It was three years before Manchester held the Commonwealth Games, allowing City to leave Maine Road, which was one of the attractions for Sheikh Mansour when he led the Abu Dhabi-backed purchase of the club that transformed City's fortunes in 2008.

Greater Manchester Police said Saturday night "passed without any significant trouble" but one man was arrested on suspicion of damaging a police vehicle.

Officers added they made "several arrests" on suspicion of public order offences following "minor incidents" in Piccadilly Gardens.

The triumphant Manchester City squad are due to land at Manchester Airport later and will hold a trophy parade on Monday.

Sections of Oxford Street and Hall Street will close in Manchester city centre on Sunday in preparation.

Thousands are expected along the route, which starts at Tonman Street, Deansgate, at 18:30 BST on Monday, before travelling through St Mary's Gate, Cross Street, King Street and then finishing on the corner of Princess Street and Portland Street.

A stage show will be held in Oxford Street, where entertainment starts at 17:30 BST with the squad expected to arrive at about 19:30.

Transport officials urged fans to travel by tram to St Peter's Square and Victoria but to avoid alighting at Deansgate.

Workers in the area were also advised to expect a longer journey time.

Supt Gareth Parkin, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "The parade will be a joyous occasion... and while we expect the vast majority of people coming together to be genuine fans, we urge you not to drink in excess or be involved in anti-social behaviour."

  4. 'Statues galore'published at 14:15 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand called the City's players "immortal".

The 2008 Champions League winner with the Red Devils, speaking to BT Sport, added: "Immortal, statues galore.

"Man City must have thought, will they even get to the top of Mount Everest? This team deserves all the credit, they are a formidable, fantastic team."

Blues fans across Manchester have been celebrating their club's first Champions League title.

Thousands gathered at live screenings, where they watched Manchester City secure the Treble after beating Inter Milan 1-0 in Istanbul.

Others continued celebrations late into the night outside Etihad Stadium.

Ecstatic fans told the BBC they were "over the moon".

One woman said: "It was honestly the best moment - it's never over until the 90 minutes are over."

Another fan said: "I couldn't have ever dreamt this but over the last 10 years, I suppose it's been coming."

Since Rodri signed for Manchester City, I think he has been pound-for-pound the best holding midfielder in world football. He has been unbelievable.

Pep has taken him to another level. When that ball fell to him just between the penalty spot and the edge of the box the finish was accomplished.

I thought when it fell to him 'that is going straight in the goal' and it did.

Inter's players tried to block it by standing straight but he just bent it around them.

  9. 'Great night for the city' - policepublished at 13:48 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have said Saturday was a "great night" for the city adding: "Following Manchester City's win last night, a large number of people gathered in Manchester city centre.

"The majority took part in the celebrations safely and respectfully, with most of the evening passing without incident. Equally, successful policing operations took place at the Etihad and AO arena for concerts, in addition to Parklife at Heaton Park.

"Some minor incidents occurred in Piccadilly Gardens, with several arrests made on suspicion of public order offences. One man has also been arrested on suspicion of damage to a police vehicle."

Chief Superintendent Rick Jackson, from GMP’s Manchester district, said: "This was a momentous occasion in the history of Manchester and overall, the night passed without any significant trouble.

"The night was the culmination of a busy one for Greater Manchester Police - from gigs and festivals to protests, we have managed a large number of operations over the last 24 hours.

"However, our officers have shown hard-work and professionalism; the last couple of days have passed relatively smoothly and it is down to their commitment.

"While several arrests were made in Piccadilly Gardens, the minority should not detract from what was a great night for this city."

Nich: It was never about the performance - it was about getting the job done. Not choking and not making unusual team selections. Inter came to stifle the team, which was high pressure. But the better team ultimately found a way and that’s what great teams do.

There have been one or two little rumours around the season that if Pep Guardiola did the Treble, might he think that would be enough and maybe it would be time to look for something else.

But Manchester City have the possibility of winning the Premier League for the fourth time in a row next season - no team has done that before.

Also, when you win the Champions League it takes you into other competitions. They'll be playing in the Uefa Super Cup in Greece in August and they will also go into the Fifa Club World Cup tournament next season.

There are always other challenges and that makes next season a huge challenge because as well as everything else, there are great demands on them as the team that are the European champions.

Kit: Fantastic night in Istanbul and City proved they know how to win, Bernardo Silva, John Stones, Ruben Dias and Ederson stood up in particular. The scenes at the end with Gundo in the stands were very emotional and may be his last moment for the club. A special team and night…thank you.

Pep Guardiola knew there would always be an unspoken question mark about his time as Manchester City manager until the Champions League was won.

The judgement on his work would always be framed, unfairly or otherwise, around whether he could add to his two victories with Barcelona in this competition - the last in 2011.

The judgement can now be made. No further doubt can be cast on Guardiola's greatness.

In my time working as BBC Sport's chief football writer, I have been lucky enough to see some of the game's greatest teams.

But watching Manchester City complete the Treble in Istanbul made me think about some of the best sides I have covered.

City's feat in becoming only the second English men's team to win the perfect Treble of the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup is confirmation they must be ranked among the greats.

Erling Haaland's goals and power provided a significant point of difference but there was brilliance in every position delivered by the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Jack Grealish and many more.

The first 45 minutes of their 4-0 win against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final second leg was one of the most exhilarating exhibitions I have ever seen.

There will be the inevitable questions about the Premier League charging City with 115 breaches of financial regulations - allegations the club fiercely deny and will fight strenuously - but, judged in the football context, they are a quite magnificent football team.

    Man City 1-0 Inter Milan

    Phil McNulty

The clock was ticking towards midnight in Istanbul when the moment Manchester City craved finally arrived and this sprawling old metropolis on the banks of the Bosphorus could turn sky blue.

Manchester City have taken a scenic and often desperately painful route to winning the Champions League but the journey reached its destination at last as they were finally able to get their hands on the giant trophy with victory over Inter Milan.

The win also completed the Treble of Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup for Pep Guardiola and his side, joining arch-rivals Manchester United as the only English club to achieve the feat.

For Guardiola, who paced and pawed at the giant technical areas of Ataturk Stadium in agitation throughout an attritional encounter, this was his legacy sealed, his place among the game's greats secured by Rodri's 68th-minute winner.

Stanlington85: Wasn't the best spectacle but it's the winning that counts. Like Man Utd in 99, the final performance wasn't 'worthy' but Juventus away was; for City, it was the demolition of Real at home. Charges/money or anything else aside you could see what this meant to every player, coach and staff member. Congratulations City.

I think to show the qualities they did last night, once that Premier League was won I think that did have an effect. I think we saw that in the FA Cup performance, it was not a million miles away from the performance that won the Champions League last night.

It wasn't the free-flowing game, losing Kevin de Bruyne in the first half [was an issue]. It wasn't quite the Manchester City that we saw weekend, mid-week when they were going through that run to the Premier League title.

I thought Rodri was the perfect goal-scorer, the dependable midfield man who is so important when you have to put in that performance.

For him to be the match winner was quite appropriate.
