To be fair us winning 11 at home in a row in qualifiers is probably because we often play the absolute worst nations in European football in qualifying groups that we SHOULD beat. Nothing impressive about that whatsoever.

What is the point of starting Trent in midfield when you have Maddison / Grealish / Gallagher / Foden on the bench. All have more experience playing in midfield and better! They must be pretty frustrated. He is a right back, play him there or don’t pick him Gareth!!

Bright stuff from England in these opening moments as Old Trafford bathes in glorious summer sunshine and a little flash of attacking sharpness from North Macedonia. They have got quite a few supporters packed into their corner of Old Trafford and they are making plenty of noise.

What has happened to the good old shin pad? TAA kicked off and looked like he had a couple of sheets of paper down his socks.

I've been impressed with him this year. He's come out of the team for portions of the season but he's dealt with it well.

We all have difficult periods as a footballer but he's not spent any time complaining about it. He trains really well, he's played well and I think his form for England has been good as well.

Those youngsters eligible for the u21s and not starting tonight (Guehi, Gallagher & Foden) should be playing at the u21 Euros this week, getting minutes there, to try and force their way into the starting senior XI instead of warming the senior bench.

I think John Stones in the back end of the season especially was outstanding. Watching Trent on Friday and seeing him produce what he did was brilliant.

When you are putting a squad together for a major tournament, you want versatility. I think Southgate has got that at the moment.
