Matt: I don't understand why everyone keeps talking about the goals record. Kane was still potentially two more seasons from breaking it. And I think everyone is in agreement that at the rate Haaland is scoring he will surpass it fairly quickly. Whereas trophies aren't taken away from you once they've been won.

Ian: Who can begrudge Kane going off to win trophies? At 30, he is right to take his chance. Different if there'd be a realistic chance of Spurs winning something, but there isn't. Ange has a lot to do to stop the club going even further in the wrong direction.

Anon: I’ve said it for long enough that Kane suits German football. Less intensity will help with his injuries. It’ll add a year or two onto his career and he could win Champions League.

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy in Spurs' press release to announce Kane's departure:

"We sought over a long period of time to engage Harry and his representatives in several forms of contract extension, both short and long term. Harry was clear, however, that he wanted a fresh challenge and would not be signing a new contract this summer. We have reluctantly, therefore, agreed to his transfer.

Daniel: Honestly very surprised to see negativity around Richarlison being the main striker now that Kane has gone. Yes, he hasn’t performed yet but he’s barely had a crack at it? The man is Brazil’s number 9, let’s give him a chance.

27 June 2023: Reports emerge that Bayern made a £70m bid, external for Kane, but Tottenham sources denied it had been received and said they would immediately reject any offer.

28 June 2023: Bayern make improved offer for Kane, but it is again rejected.

The Harry Kane leaving Tottenham saga has not just begun this summer. Oh no. Since June 2021, Kane has been keen for a new challenge.

Here is the lowdown.

June 2021: Kane is linked with a £160m move to Manchester City following speculation around his future.

August 2021: City boss Pep Guardiola confirms the club's interest in the forward but later that month Kane says he will stay at Tottenham with Levy refusing to sell.

March 2023: Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag reportedly targets, external Kane as a priority summer transfer target.

Harry Kane has signed for Bayern Munich. The deal is worth more than 110m euros (£95m).

The news started to break at about 50 minutes ago when Kane posted a goodbye video to Tottenham Hotspur fans on his social media accounts.

This was swiftly followed by confirmation of the transfer at 9am.

Quite the first Premier League weekend of the season!

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou spoke yesterday about Kane's move to Bayern.

Bayern begin their 2023/24 campaign against RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup tonight (19:45 BST).

Surely, the deal has come too late for him to play? No word on that yet. But at the very least, he will be able to watch his new team-mates play for some silverware.
