Spurs have played well so far and we deserve to be winning but that was not a great finish by Maddison, comms teams and pundits are raving about what in all honesty was a miskick.

    Adam, Spurs fan

At £40 million, Maddison could be the signing of the summer! Such a fantastic player. Surprised Man City never went for him given that Gundogan left.

    Bournemouth 0-1 Tottenham

I was just about to say that Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma were great against Manchester United last week and were looking good again. Two players who were underused or underperformed last season but look to be the driving force in Ange's Engine Room.

GOAL - Bournemouth 0-1 Tottenhampublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    James Maddison (17 mins)

James Maddison has his first Tottenham goal! It's a really good move too as Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr link up on the edge of the area, Sarr picks out the third-man run through the middle from Maddison and while he scuffs his connection, a brush off the studs is enough to guide it in.

  4. GREAT SAVE!published at 16 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Tottenham

First real chance of the game! No surprises that James Maddison is involved, and it all comes from a poor clearance from Neto. Son picks it up and plays Maddison in, Neto then saves his shot with his feet, as Max Aarons did well to get back and make a challenge.

A let-off for the home skipper.

Brazil's number nine not doing it for you?

He's not going to score as many as Harry Kane but I still suspect Richarlison will come good for Spurs. We'll see. There are probably 91 sets of fans in England who wouldn't mind an upgrade at number nine, though.

I'm still doubting if Richarlison can provide that final touch Kane used to give. #Tottenham

    James, Sierra Leone

Spurs could have confidence, belief, togetherness and momentum but they'd still have Richarlison as a striker. Mid-table for Spurs

A real winding for Cristian Romero as he wins a header and then lands in a heap on his side. Ouch. Romero had to come off after scoring against Brentford of course but he's made of teak and can play on this time.

  8. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Tottenham

James Maddison is at the wheel for another slick Spurs move, two nice passes before he spins inside the area and scuffs a shot that is blocked by Max Aarons. Was there a hand involved? Nothing doing.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Tottenham

Tottenham's Pedro Porro is tucking in from right-back into the heart of midfield, if you're playing 'modern game bingo.' James Maddison then plays a beaut of a pass with the outside of his boot, it's cut out but not many would have even though about it.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Tottenham

Harry Kane is next in action for Bayern Munich against Augsburg tomorrow, by the way. You can follow a live text with us.

Antoine Semenyo catches Destiny Udogie with a hefty challenge and that slows the play down for a bit.

    Nedum Onuoha
Former Manchester City defender on Football Focus

Given the fact that their talisman Harry Kane has left, Spurs needed something to look forward too.

It feels exciting. They are getting that excitement with this new style of play they are playing with now.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Tottenham

Bournemouth playing with a high line that would bring tears to Steve Cook's eyes, we're in for an entertaining game here. Here come Spurs with their first attack, James Maddison's nutmegged pass to Son is a peach but his shot is charged down.

  13. 'New energy about Spurs under Ange'published at 12:32 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Bournemouth 0-0 Tottenham

    Martin Keown
Former England defender on Football Focus

Ange Postecoglou has definitely injected a new energy into the side.

Maddison is running things in midfield, Bissouma playing with lots of confidence.

Spurs are playing with freedom, passing the ball around with confidence, passing forward instead of sideways.

So this could really be a new Spurs we are seeing.

The away fans in good voice as Spurs play out from the back under heavy pressure. James Maddison loses the ball and the hosts force an early corner.

Imagine being told 20 years ago that in 2023 Kluivert will be playing for Bournemouth in the Premier League. Apart from anything else you'd question that isn't he about 50 years old at this point?
