Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper, speaking to Sky Sports: "For a team to score or concede two goals so quickly doesn’t happen very often, certainly not for the away team here.

"For the positions we did get into, we weren’t able to make the most of our chances. That’ll be another frustration and will wind me and the players up a little while, for sure.

"We had some really good phases in the game and some really good tactical moves. We couldn’t quite get the final bit and are disappointed we lost.

"You need luck when you come here and lots of other things. We showed the other things.

"Goals always make a difference in games, but I feel like we should have scored one or two more."

Brighton gifted West Ham the goal and they have hardly created any chances due to this West Ham side really buying into the game plan and being really disciplined.

They have done well to frustrate and shut down any threats.

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen, speaking to Sky Sports: "We showed character to turn the game around and get three points.

"We still had the confidence and playing at home, we know we'll get the chances. It's just about taking them.

"Second half we controlled the game. We had the positivity and the quality to come back.

"It's a big surprise to go 2-0 down. The second one was a lucky goal and you felt it was going to be a tough one."

On his goal: "Very pleased. We have a lot of players who can play so it's up to the manager to pick the team. I was happy to play today and get the goal to help the team."

On off-field distractions: "It's always the same, our focus is on the football and on the pitch. After you lose, you are a little bit more angry and you have to take that onto the pitch. We did that today. We can't think about what is happening off the pitch."

  5. 'We showed real character'published at 18:22 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    FT: Everton 0-1 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves manager Gary O'Neil to Sky Sports: "I'm not really relieved, I'm just pleased for the lads. They've had a real go and we've missed chances. Things hadn't gone our way. I thought the performance was good, there is lots of room for improvement. The group showed real character and resilience and stood up to everything Everton threw at them, which you need at Goodison Park. We had some moments of quality and we missed some chances then you wonder if it's one of them days. I'm pleased for the boys because they've worked hard for me."

On Sasa Kalajdzic: "He's had a tough spell, he's been working very hard everyday. Similar to the rest of the boys, they're working really hard on improving habits and how we work. They're a group who commit to things. There's only so long you can say performances are getting to where we want without the points."

Time on training ground: "It was a good week, it was two games, four days apart. To have a clear week, I thought the structure was better today. Sometimes more important than that was the togetherness and commitment. It got us over the line."

On Jose Sa: "Sa made a big save when we were in the ascendency as well, they managed to break away and he made a great save. It would have knocked the stuffing out of us a little bit if we'd have conceded while on top. It was a big save."

On first win: "It's nice to get it. No one likes being stuck on zero. Coming here and winning is tough. I think we could have made it easier for ourselves with a little bit more control, but I also have to remember we are about 14 days in."

  6. 'A massive win'published at 18:21 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, speaking to Sky Sports: "Of course, I'm happy and pleased with the performance after a horror start. We were very undisciplined.

"We have a lot of personality in this team, to stay calm after such a messy start is brilliant. Not many teams can do it but we often bounce back and we did it again.

"We have some very good leaders in the team and they stayed calm. That is what we expect from them and we encourage them to do that and stick to the plan.

"We played good football in the first half, created chances and got the goal back. It's a massive win.

"Even when you don't get that goal, you have to win and find a way to win. We work a lot on this. The team see this and embrace it.

"If we show this belief and this character we can go far. There is still room for improvement, we allowed them two goals that shouldn't happen.

On Raphael Varane injury: "He had some complaints, I have to see where he is. I have to have an update with my medical staff."

On fan protests: "The fans are entitled to have their opinions but you see that they stick with the team. Togetherness helped us turn this around. There is a very good connection between the fans and team. The fans were brilliant."

  7. 'We want 11 v 11 on the pitch'published at 18:20 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    FT: Arsenal 2-2 Fulham

    Fulham

More from Fulham boss Marco Silva, speaking to BBC Match of the Day on whether the new guidelines for managers are clear enough? "No. I am the first to criticise myself. Even in situations where it is hard to stay in control, I am the first to criticise myself. In this way it is difficult. I stand and to not move is almost impossible for me. If you behave wrong, of course you have to be booked. If you go a bit outside the area it will be difficult, not just for me. These new guidelines, not just for managers but for players as well. That first yellow card for Calvin Bassey [for timewasting], how can you understand that? Even if you create situations in training to adapt, for the players it is near impossible. The consistency is the main thing and we are not seeing that.

"In the meetings we had before the season with the referees, we all said we want a better game. We want more minutes played. We also want 11 v 11 on the pitch and managers on the touchline and this way it will be difficult."

On getting a big point: "It is a great sign but not new. I knew last season even though some people were touching the panic button. We lost a derby at home to Brentford last game and people panic. We know what we need and we need many, many things before the end of the market. But the soul of this group, the quality and the organisation and how we help them, it is still here from the last season. We need more bodies and quality to be stronger."

You don't want to be conceding just before half time.

Areola was lucky that no Brighton players gambled and made the run into the box. If they had the ball was there for the taking.

Big let-off for West Ham. Edson Alvarez slices a clearance straight into the air. It should be a simple catch for Alphonse Areola but he somehow spills it - however he recovers to catch before it spins over the line.
