    Chelsea 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Forest defender Serge Aurier catches Enzo Fernandez early in the second half with the sort of challenge that used to be reserved for the first five minutes. No booking mind.

    Man City 2-1 Fulham

Marco Silva looks like he hasn't fully calmed down after the ending to that first half.

  3. Postpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 2 September 2023

    Brentford 1-1 Bournemouth

Both of these sides have looked pretty decent going forward but very shaky at the back.

As if too prove the point Rico Henry runs through a non-existent Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi to tee up what should be a certain goal for Bryan Mbeumo, who somehow side foots wide from eight yards.

Before the world loses its collective mind over Akanji being ruled not offside, can we please remember the precedent set by Fernandes/Rashford goal for United against City last season? If that wasn't offside, no chance Akanji was interfering!

RE: Ned 15:58. Remember Rashford/Fernandez in the derby?

    Jonny

P Mak: City fan here. Feel for Fulham. You see Leno holds his dive until it goes under Akanji. I will take it but if it was the other way, I would be fuming

Well, we had a fair bit of entertainment in those first halves.

We ended with a bit of controversy too, courtesy of the game at the Etihad.

Chelsea have dominated possession, ball speed is good, final third entries are there but they've not many shots to show for it.

They haven't tested the Forest keeper enough. A lot of possession but not enough attempts on target and haven't done enough to hurt Forest yet.

Bet this feels like a trip down memory lane for the home fans as Neal Maupay is paraded on the pitch at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The French forward re-signed for his former club on loan for the 2023-24 season from Everton, with the Bees having the option of making the transfer permanent.

Maupay scored 37 goals in 85 league games in his first stint with the club.

  10. 'In the end it could have gone either way'published at 15:59 British Summer Time 2 September 2023

    FT: Sheffield United 2-2 Everton

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom speaking to Match of the Day: "Probably a fair result, we can't grumble because it was a really good game. Disappointed we couldn't nick the winner at the end, but it was a great save. I always talk about performance with my players and if we play like that I am happy and proud of them.

"The only poor part of the game was the start of the second half, Everton came forward more and got more balls in the box, put us under pressure. Couple of poor decisions in key moments. In the end it could have gone either way."

On goalscorer Cameron Archer: "The first goal was excellent, from him and the whole team. To fall behind to a set play was disappointing but the size of Everton it is hard to defend sometimes We fought to get back into the game and then got ourselves on top come half-time."

On whether today was a six-pointer: "It is in a way, because we could have had three points and we didn't get them. It just shows how hard it is to get points in the Premier League.

"It is a young squad we are trying to bring together and that is why we bang on about the margins and standards. So a point is important. Day by day we have been getting stronger and it took until the end of the window to get where we want to be."

Ryan: How is Akanji not offside? Absolutely baffling.

RP: Football is dead. That is clearly offside he moves his foot out the way of the ball. Honestly. Wow. I might be done with it here. The refs can't be allowed to be this bad. It's pathetic. Actually pathetic. Fulham shouldnt come back out. I wouldn't.

Patrick: VAR is nonsense... why has that counted?? Shocking.

Any team other than Manchester City and that goal gets disallowed. It was 100% offside. VAR helping out the big teams yet again.

As the header from Ake goes past Akanji, his leg flicks out, as if he is trying to kick it.

The keeper hasn't got the chance to comprehend how to change his movment if Akanji does get that touch, so for me that is interfering with play.

    That is offside for me.

  13. 'We are our own worst enemy'published at 15:57 British Summer Time 2 September 2023

    FT: Sheffield United 2-2 Everton

    Everton

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, speaking to TNT Sports after the game: "There are a lot of positives in it and a lot of negatives as a team. We went one nil up and they scored two goals, but that's why the Premier League is the best in world and you cannot take any teams for granted.

"They got a bit of luck on the second goal, but it is a performance we should have got three points from. We knew they were a threat in set-pieces we knew how aggressive Ollie Norwood's crosses can be.

"I have got to be switched on and I know it was 98 minutes but the manager told us there would be 100-minute games so we never lack concertation and always be on my A game.

"I think we are our own worst enemy and that is what we have got to learn from, apart from the Villa game the three other games, Fulham, Wolves and Sheffield United it has been so tight, but it is those small margins we have got improve on as a team.

"It is a start we have got some fresh air. It is my seventh season the fans just want hard work from us and if you put 100% in they will love you."

It is hardly a revelation to confirm Marco Silva was arguing with anyone prepared to listen over that incident.

Fourth official Michael Salisbury copped most of the Portuguese's anger.

Silva has already served one touchline ban after being booked three times in the opening three games. Now he has talked himself into another.

It was so sedate for so long and then in two bursts the game has given us plenty.

City scored and Fulham hit back immediately.

Then, with the last attack, City retook the lead in a manner that sparked fury from the visitors.

Akanji looks to be trying to get the ball to me, which means he is not passive in the play.

What do you think? Should it have stood?

Silva is going to be fuming at the end here.

He had plenty to say last week about an Arsenal goal that stood despite what he felt was a foul on Calvin Bassey.

Now, he's waving his arms and shouting about another perceived injustice. It earns him a booking.

    The goal stands!

This is controversial. You can see the argument to suggest Akanji may be interfering in play.

It looks like Fulham are arguing the defender actually touched the ball, in which case he is offside and active.

    Marco Silva is going mad.
