    Plymouth 1-1 Southampton

There is zero patience for any dilly-dallying around midfield today.

Anytime the ball is around the halfway mark the player on the ball is hacked down.

Both Plymouth and Southampton just want to be in each other's final third, it seems.

Southampton's Stuart Armstrong with a looping shot from just outside the Plymouth area hits the crossbar.

    No penalty.

It looks like there may have been a tiny bit of contact.

But the referee is having none of it and books Ryan Hardie for diving.

From when we were sat it looked like a penalty.

Either way it's a let off for Southampton.

  5. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 13:48 British Summer Time 19 August 2023

    Plymouth 1-1 Southampton

It's Plymouth's Ryan Hardie versus the Southampton keeper Gavin Bazunu on the edge of the box.

Bazunu slides to clear the ball and Hardie goes flying - just inside the area.

    Penalty? Not given.

  6. 'Physical demands high'published at 13:45 British Summer Time 19 August 2023

    Plymouth 1-1 Southampton

    Ryan Dickson
Former Plymouth and Southampton defender on BBC Radio Devon

    What a game.

Argyle have to be a bit wary of not being caught on the counter, as Southampton's front four are very talented.

It's turning into a very good game tactically, and it's physically demanding a lot of the players.

What a start to this second half from both Plymouth and Southampton.

What did the players eat in the dressing room at the break?

I told you there would be goals didn't I.

    What a response!

    The hosts comes steaming back.

A low cross from the nearside fizzes into Southampton's six-yard box and Ryan Hardie crashes in and says 'thank you' - blasting the ball into the back of the net from close range.

That was very poorly defended by Plymouth I have to say.

It's a very good goal though.

The ball shouldn't have got to Nathan Tella but they are the sort of chances you need to take.

    Great finish!

Southampton's Nathan Tella collects the ball just outside the Plymouth box in a central position.

Left footed shot into the top corner.

It looked like the Pilgrims defenders backed off and just left him to it.

    Here come Southampton again.

Sam Edozie in space on the nearside edge of the Plymouth area.

Looks up and shoots toward the far post, past the outstretched hand of the Pilgrims keeper Colin Hazard, and just wide.

Ryan Manning from the left-hand side feeds a low bouncing pass into the box that runs over the penalty spot and toward the back post.

But Nathan Tella can't get on the end of it.

    We are back under way.

Home Park is still basking in some beautiful afternoon sun.

Which one of these two undefeated sides is going to break the deadlock.

Remember whoever wins this match will go top of the Championship, for a short while at least - talk about a dangling carrot.

  14. Wigan in dreamland at rivals Boltonpublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 19 August 2023

    HT: Bolton 0-3 Wigan

Stephen Humphrys has added his second - and Wigan's third - in first-half injury time to complete a dream half for the Latics.

And where there are dreams there are often nightmares lurking and that is certainly a disaster of an opening 45 minutes for Bolton.

Charlie Wyke opened the scoring early on and Wigan haven't looked back.

    Interesting second half coming up!

Southampton have dominated possession and Plymouth are playing on the counter-attack - that's been the theme of the first half.

Saints need to pick it up a bit, they haven't created enough.

A bright start from both sides but neither clinical enough to open the scoring.

Plymouth look the most dangerous coming forward, especially with Bali Mumba down that left side.

    Time for some half-time oranges.

Plymouth's Kaine Kesler-Hayden has a shot from distance that curls toward the top corner of the Southampton goal, but just over.

    Worth a try.

Plymouth's Luke Cundle receives the ball at his feet in the middle of the Southampton box with his back to goal, surrounded by Saints players.

That was a real chance for the hosts.
