Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer curls a corner to the back stick and new Foxes keeper Mads Hermansen gets the panic on and it nearly goes it at far post.

You can see the Manchester City style in Leicester's game immediately, especially with Ricardo Pereira.

The right-back is basically playing in midfield when they have the ball.

A very colourful run-up to the High Noon kick-off in the East Midlands.

A giant banner is unfurled at the home end to remind the Leicester City fans of the Latin club motto "Semper Eadem" to demonstrate that, despite relegation, a new manager and a clutch of new faces, that nothing has changed - and that they remain "Always the same".

It's not as snappy as "Play up Sky Blues", the message from the 3,000 Cov fans crammed into the away corner - a few less than their last away outing, the heartbreaking trip to Wembley in May.

Energetic start from both teams in this one, as you'd expect.

Neither side has really put their foot on it for a spell yet.

What we'll miss from Conor Coady from what I've seen in pre-season and over the years at his different clubs are his leadership qualities.

We missed that massively against Liverpool (the pre-season game Liverpool won 4-0).

Where are the leaders if things get difficult today? Other than Wout Faes and Jamie Vardy, you can't identify a real leader in the starting line-up.

It almost feels like Coventry won the play-off final and we're in the Premier League with this atmosphere.

Mark Robins is calling it Premier League 2 this season.

  11. 'Turning point in Leicester's path'published at 11:56 British Summer Time 6 August 2023

    Leicester v Coventry (12:00 BST)

    Owynn Palmer-Atkin
    BBC Radio Leicester Sport

For the first time in nearly a decade, a season back in English football’s second tier dawns on the Foxes. The triumphs of Premier League title glory, FA Cup-winning screamers and adventures across Europe are not parts of history that can be relied on in the Championship.

The Foxes have taken a risk and the new man in the dugout, Enzo Maresca, takes the helm on what feels like a turning point in the club's path. The Italian has learnt from the best, working under Pep Guardiola as assistant manager at Manchester City last campaign - and he’s tasked with guiding the Foxes back into the top flight at the first time of asking.

The sales of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes for combined fees of £78m has given the club vital cash to reinvest into a squad in desperate need of an injection of fresh energy and ideas. They have reinvested well so far, but there’s still a number of positions in need of attention.

  12. Sky Blues may need time to settlepublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 6 August 2023

    Leicester v Coventry (12:00 BST)

    Steve Ogrizovic
Ex-Coventry City goalkeeper for BBC CWR

Last season was brilliant, full of excitement and expectation right up until the last penalty kick, but having lost Viktor Gyokeres and formed a completely new defence, don’t expect too much too soon.

They’ll need time to gel and get used to the exciting brand of football Mark Robins produces so, while I don’t expect a rapid start, I do think they’ll get better as the season goes.

It’s difficult to tell who’ll be key, but I’m excited by the new signings and the club has been clever to shop in undervalued markets. The question people have is whether they can keep hold of Gustavo Hamer - I’m keeping my fingers crossed but, with only a year left on his contract, he may have to leave.

Overall, we’d love promotion but don’t expect them to go one better just because of Wembley, the league is tougher, but with a few more signings possibly on the way they’ve got potential.

    Leicester v Coventry (12:00 BST)

This is the first meeting between these teams since the 2011-12 season.

Of course, had Coventry's penalty shootout with Luton at Wembley ended a different way in May the Sky Blues would be preparing for a first game back in the Premier League in over two decades instead of visiting the Foxes today.

Both of these sides will hope to be involved in the promotion shake-up come May next year.

Some interesting picks from new Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca. Kasey McAteer is given his first league start for the club at 21 and there are four new signings in the starting XI. Some things don't change though, Jamie Vardy will lead the attack and captains the side.

Leicester XI: Hermansen, Ricardo, Faes, Vestergaard, Doyle, Winks, Ndidi, Dewsbury-Hall, McAteer, Vardy, Mavididi.

Subs: Stolarczyk, Justin, Castagne, Souttar, Choudhury, Praet, Albrighton, Daka, Iheanacho.

Coventry City boss Mark Robins gives debuts to four of his nine summer signings from the start. Striker Ellis Simms will look to pick up where he left off in this division from a loan spell at Sunderland. Record-signing Haji Wright only signed on Friday so the USA striker starts on the bench this afternoon.

Coventry XI: Wilson, Thomas, McFadzean, Latibeaudiere, Eccles, Hamer, Sheaf, Dasilva, Palmer; Simms, Godden.

Subs: Collins, Bink, Sakamoto, Kelly, Bidwell, Wright, Van Ewijk, Howley, Obikwu.
