It has been stop-start in this second half and that will suit Argentina, it prevents Italy from really settling into a rhythm.

Italy's Manuela Giugliano tries to break the deadlock with a 25-yard strike and it would've been a great goal, but the shot is always wayward and high and not so handsome.

Some silly pushing and shoving in the box between Mariana Larroquette and Chiara Beccari. Argentina's Larroquette needs to be careful as she is on a yellow card.

But a chat from Honduras referee Melissa Borjas is enough and a warning to both players.

  4. 'Comfortable for Argentina'published at 08:10 British Summer Time 24 July 2023

    Italy 0-0 Argentina

    Lucy Ward
    Former Leeds striker on ITV

Argentina look really comfortable in their defensive shape with everything in front of them.

Italy just need to start moving that ball and trying to get in behind, defenders hate running back towards their own goal.

Lisa Boattin with a clumsy foul on Argentina's Romina Nunez and that gives Eliana Stabile the chance to whip the ball in left footed from the right touchline.

The free-kick causes a lot of problems for Italy goalkeeper Francesca Durante but she does excellently to backpedal and leap and get a hand to it, when the ball may have crept in inside the far post.

And we're back in Auckland. Just the one shot on target in the first half. Expecting better in the second.

England v Denmark (Friday, 09:30 BST)

Looking ahead to England's next match, on Friday against Denmark...

England need to start scoring some goals soon at this Fifa Women's World Cup, but the current lack of cutting edge is certainly not Alessia Russo's fault.

It is more than five and a half hours since the Lionesses found the net in open play, and they had to rely on Georgia Stanway's twice-taken penalty to edge past Haiti in their opening game in Group D.

Russo has gone even longer since finding the net at international level, going back to February's win over South Korea, but I am not worried about her form with tougher games against Denmark and China to come.

She may not have scored against Haiti, but she still led the line really well and did all the right things for the team. In fact, the only part of her game I want to see her do differently is to get in the box more.

  8. What's it like being on standby at a World Cup?published at 08:01 British Summer Time 24 July 2023

    Lucy StaniforthImage source, Getty Images

It is the job nobody really wants but someone has to do it - being on standby for a World Cup.

Expected to drop all plans and fly across the world just in case one of the lucky 23 who has been selected happens to pick up an injury, there can be fewer better examples of a team player.

England midfielder Lucy Staniforth was a late addition to boss Sarina Wiegman's standby list - forced to miss a holiday in Ibiza with her mother as she replaced injured Manchester City forward Jess Park as one of the Lionesses' back-up options in Australia this month.

With all the selected Lionesses coming through preparation in one piece and able to take their place in the first matchday squad, Staniforth and Manchester United defender Maya Le Tissier's time in camp was up.

"I think the overriding feeling right now is a little bit of sadness and pride," said Staniforth.

  9. Frustrating for Italypublished at 07:58 British Summer Time 24 July 2023

    HT: Italy 0-0 Argentina

    Neil Johnston
    BBC Sport at Eden Park

All eyes are on Giulia Dragoni and the 16-year-old midfielder can be pleased with her first half stats.

She had 30 touches, made 10 passes, had a passing accuracy of 90%, made two challenges and conceded one foul.

Italy look the more likely to score but Argentina are making it hard for them. The two disallowed goals have only added to Le Azzurre's frustrations.

  10. 'Argentina good in possession'published at 07:57 British Summer Time 24 July 2023

    HT: Italy 0-0 Argentina

    Eniola Aluko
    Former England forward on ITV1

Both teams have cancelled each other out.

Argentina didn't create too many clear-cut chances but I like the way they've played in possession.

I think they just need to build the flow.

Italy huffed and puffed but didn't do enough to really threaten Argentina.

  11. HALF-TIMEpublished at 07:51 British Summer Time 24 July 2023

    Italy 0-0 Argentina

Goalless at the break. The best moment came in the first minute with Mariana Larroquette's acrobatic bicycle kick going wide for Argentina.

Italy have twice had the ball in the net, but both times been rightly called for offsides to deny firstly Arianna Caruso and then Valentina Giacinti.

  12. Postpublished at 45+3 mins

    Italy 0-0 Argentina

Elena Linari looks a very good defender for Italy. She gets a crucial touch to send Florencia Bonsegundo's shot behind for a corner, which comes to nothing for Argentina.

Eliana Stabile then tries her luck from 30 yards out but a sliding challenge from a defender wipes out all the power and it easy for Italy goalkeeper Francesca Durante.

  14. 'Argentina well organised'published at 07:43 British Summer Time 24 July 2023

    Italy 0-0 Argentina

    Lucy Ward
    Former Leeds striker on ITV

    The run was too early.

Again, it's a good finish from Valentina Giacinti but it won't count.

That backline of four from Argentina has been so well organised, they've played together so often.

  15. DISALLOWED GOAL - Italypublished at 43 mins

    Italy 0-0 Argentina

Valentina Giacinti has the ball in the net after being played through by Chiara Beccari and shooting low into the corner.

But, just as Arianna Caruso was earlier in the half, Giacinti's celebrations are instantly ended by an assistant's flag for offside.

Argentina are living dangerously, but their offside trap works again and it stays 0-0.

    Italy 0-0 Argentina

Italy centre forward Valentina Giacinti is starting to look a handful. Another ball forward is aimed in her direction and it takes the combined effort of Argentina defenders Sophia Braun and Miriam Mayorga to deny her a shooting opportunity.

  17. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Italy 0-0 Argentina

Sixteen-year-old Giulia Dragoni provides a lovely pass into the Argentina penalty area, but a stretching Valentina Giacinti can only get her toes on it and is unable to gather.

Giacinti would have been through with only Vanina Correa to beat if she had collected the ball, but applauds the idea from the teenager.

  18. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Italy 0-0 Argentina

Italy's Lisa Boattin needs a bit of medical treatment and is limping a bit after a strong, fully-committed, but a challenge that is ruled fair from Argentina.

The South Americans then have a huddle and a chat before we get going again.

Boattin is back on the pitch, but looks to still be in a bit of pain.

    Italy 0-0 Argentina

    Lucy Ward
    Former Leeds striker on ITV

I think the quality will come as the game progresses.

Both teams have got players that can produce that moment of quality, we've seen glimpses but nothing consistent yet.

What's most important is that neither side has conceded yet.
