    Italy 0-0 Argentina

Veteran Argentina goalkeeper Vanina Correa likes to punch the ball instead of catch it, but it is effective twice in a short space of time, firstly on a corner from the left and then from a following ball played into the box.

    Italy 0-0 Argentina

Argentina's Estefania Banini takes the 25-yard central free-kick, but the Italian wall stays firm and blocks the shot.

Banini recycles the ball and looks to progress down the left side into the penalty area, but Italy are able to get the ball and clear away.

    Italy 0-0 Argetina

Estefania Banini looks to cause some chaos and plays an angled ball into the Italian penalty area, but Florencia Bonsegundo at the back post just can't get there in time.

Argentina then get a free-kick in a dangerous position following a foul from Arianna Caruso, and that followed by a petulant reaction, earns her a yellow card.

    Chance for Argentina this.

There's a pocket of Argentina fans who have done nothing but wave scarves around their heads, play drums, clap and dance since kick-off.

Might be too early to say but me and my dad always have final four predictions and he thinks Sweden over Argentina... come on La Albiceleste!

Some solid defending from Italy's Elena Linari, sliding in and winning the ball cleanly to deny Romina Nunez in the penalty area.

Linari's challenge had to be spot on to avoid conceding a penalty - and it was.

It was a great finish but the Argentina players had their hands up, I think they knew it was going to be ruled out.

Argentina are blocking the central areas but that is opening up spaces for Italy out wide.

  8. DISALLOWED GOAL - Italypublished at 16 mins

    Italy 0-0 Argentina

Italy's Arianna Caruso thinks she has got the first goal of the game, with a curled strike that takes a bit of a nick off an Argentine defender before going into the net.

But the assistant's flag is raised instantly and it was a clear offside.

A half-chance for Italy's number nine Valentina Giacinti after a loose bit of control from an Argentine defender. Giacinti gets into the box, but from a tight angle can only fire her shot straight at the body of Argentina goalkeeper Vanina Corrrea.

It has been all Italy in terms of control in the early stages.

Argentina need to try and spend some time up the field and give their defenders the chance for a breather.

    Italy 0-0 Argentina

The Italian delivery from corners is set pieces is excellent with another one swung in from the right. Argentina's Mariana Larroquette sends her clearance against team-mate Lorena Benitez and Italy's Arianna Caruso wants another corner.

She should have got one, but the decision, incorrectly, goes Argentina's way for a goal kick.

    Italy 0-0 Argentina

Early signs are good for this one. Italy get a corner, Argentina's 39-year-old goalkeeper Vanina Correa can't get much distance on the punch and a scramble follows, with Argentina frantically clearing their lines.

    Italy 0-0 Argentina

Argentina have never won a match at a Fifa Women's World Cup and nearly make a stunning start to day five.

Italy can't deal with a free-kick played into the box, it falls to Mariana Larroquette and she goes for the acrobatic bicycle kick.

The technique is great, but the finish goes just wide. Nearly a sensational opening.

This is arguably the most open group in the World Cup, both teams will feel they've got a chance of progressing.

Not as many in for this one as the opening night for co-hosts New Zealand or defending champions the United States on Saturday.

Still it's a decent turnout with around 30,000 inside.

Fifa president Gianni Infantino is in the crowd.
