Argentina forward Yamila Rodriguez likes a tattoo. She's got two on one leg of footballers who have inspired her. One of Argentine icon Diego Maradona and another of...Cristiano Ronaldo.

What about Lionel Messi, who inspired the nation to World Cup glory a few months back?

"Not Messi. Cristiano and Diego always," she said.

Fair to say she's a bit different than the rest. And very good.

  6. Seven defeats and two draws at Fifa World Cupspublished at 06:49 British Summer Time 24 July 2023

    Italy v Argentina (07:00 BST)

Argentina have never won a sanctioned Women's World Cup match, losing all six games before 2019 and then drawing twice and losing once in 2019, including a 3-3 draw with Scotland.

Captain and goalkeeper Vanina Correa, 39, has been in the squad for all four of the tournaments, including this one.

In the non-Fifa-sanctioned 1971 World Cup, Argentina, who beat England 4-1 in the group stage, lost 4-0 to Italy in the third-place play-off. That is their only previous meeting.

Argentina have bounced back well considering they did not play a game between 2015 and 2017, when they lost their Fifa ranking for inactivity and are currently ranked 28th in the world.

This is Diana Parrao who has travelled 11,500 miles hoping to witness a historic win for Argentina. Diana is originally from Quilmes - about 12 miles from the capital Buenos Aires - but has been living in London for the past seven years.

Inspired by men's keeper Emi Martinez's decision to add some colour to his hair during Argentina's triumphant 2022 World Cup campaign, Diana got her partner to paint the colours of Argentina's flag into her hair before arriving in New Zealand.

"By doing this I take the flag wherever I go," Diana told me.

This is Argentina's fourth Fifa Women's World Cup tournament but they are yet to win a game. Is that about to change?

"I like to believe we are going to make history - just like New Zealand the other night," adds Diana. "This World Cup will be the underdog World Cup.

"I'm in touch with 150 Argentina fans who are here. Some have come from Argentina but there are many others who have travelled from all over the world."

This is another game I am really looking forward to, and again it should be close.

I am going with Italy to edge it, so Argentina will have to wait a little longer for their first World Cup finals win.

  9. Italy aiming to 'continue the growth process'published at 06:44 British Summer Time 24 July 2023

    Italy v Argentina (07:00 BST)

Italy are hoping to build on a quarter-final finish at the 2019 World Cup, which was their first time in the tournament since 1999.

But they finished bottom of their group at Euro 2022 in England with only one point.

"This World Cup is important - just as the previous one - because it does continue the growth process. We have qualified for two World Cups in a row and this is extraordinarily important for the growth in Italy," said manager Melina Bertolini.

"Our movement keeps growing. It's a very young movement; it's still fragile."

We're already 12 games deep into the biggest Women's World Cup yet and the 13th match of the tournament is taking place at Eden Park.

It's the third time in this tournament New Zealand's national stadium has staged a game after New Zealand-Norway on the opening night was followed on Saturday by USA-Vietnam.

By the time this game starts, more than 100,000 fans will have passed through the gates at the venue.

Auckland has embraced this tournament and as New Zealand defender CJ Bott said on Sunday: "This World Cup has thrown football in people's faces. I'm not surprised everyone has got on board."

This is the 13th match of the Women's World Cup and we've had 21 goals, with only 11 of the 24 nations to have played finding the back of the net.

Japan lead the way with five goals, Spain and the United States got three apiece, Switzerland and Sweden both netted twice, with New Zealand, Australia, England, Denmark, South Africa and Netherlands all scoring just the once.

Let's hope the goals are flowing today.

What a moment for Giulia Dragoni.

Italy's Barcelona midfielder is starting for her country at a World Cup at the age of 16.

Dragoni - born on 7 November, 2006 - only made her debut for Le Azzurre on 1 July.

Whatever the result, this is a night she is never going to forget.

Dragoni is wearing the No 16 shirt - the same number as her age. Argentina keeper Vanina Correa was 23 when Dragoni was born in 2006.

Italy are going through a transitional period at the moment.

Milena Bertolini is trying to bring in young players and it's always difficult when you're in that kind of moment.

Giulia Dragoni does play for Barcelona, so she is obviously an excellent player, but 16 is just such a young age to start.

Bertolini has a lot of faith in her but it's a lot of responsibility and weight on such a young player's shoulders.

Italy don't have a lot of strong, physical players in midfield and if she is going to play there I'd be a bit worried about that.

Huge news from Italy's dressing room as 16-year-old Giulia Dragoni starts in midfield and thus becomes one of the youngest players to appear at a Fifa Women's Cup.

Barbara Bonansea captains the two-time World Cup quarter-finalists but highly experienced forward Cristiana Girelli has to make do with a place on the bench.

Italy XI: Durante, Salvai, Boattin, Linari, di Guglielmo, Giugliano, Bonansea, Beccari, Dragoni, Caruso, Giacinti.

Argentina are captained by goalkeeper Vanina Correa, who turns 40 next month, and is appearing at her fourth World Cup - 20 years after appearing in the squad for the 2003 edition in the United States.

Estefania Banini will lead the attack, while 17-year-old keeper Lara Esponda makes an appearance on the bench.

Argentina XI: Correa, Braun, Cometti, Stabile, Mayorga, Nunez, Falfan, Bonsegundo, Benítez, Banini, Larroquette.

History could be made on day five of the Fifa Women's World Cup if Nouhaila Benzina plays for Morocco.

The 25-year-old defender will become the first player to wear a hijab, the Islamic headscarf, at a World Cup if she features against one of the tournament favourites, Germany.

That is the second game of the day, with Italy facing Argentina, who are trying to win their first World Cup match, earlier in the morning.

Brazil have won all eight of their World Cup openers and get their tournament under way against debutants Panama.

    Italy and Argentina.

Two football-mad countries that have enjoyed great success at the men's World Cup, winning seven tournaments between them.

But they are yet to replicate those triumphs in the women's game.

Italy have never been beyond the quarter-finals, while Argentina, whose men's team are the current world champions, have not won any of their nine matches at previous Fifa Women's World Cups.

Is today the day for Argentina to get that first win?
