Canada need the Republic of Ireland to do them a huge favour.
They look overwhelmed against the co-hosts.

A lovely in-swinging corner, right into the mixer. In a difficult area where the keeper has to try and come to claim the ball.
Kennedy and Quinn are in a tussle, the keeper can't make clean contact, and it is Raso who is the first to react when it drops.
She just pokes it into the net.
Republic of Ireland 0-0 Nigeria
Nigeria keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie misses Katie McCabe's cross but nobody is there to head into an empty net.
Moments later Denise O'Sullivan's heavy touch lets her down.

Such a strange reaction to that goal - the crowd didn't seem to want to celebrate it, in case of being given false hope again.
Then Canada kicked off again, and that got a big roar as Australia realised it wouldn't be taken away from them this time.
Hayley Raso
Australia restore their lead!
A brilliant in-swinging corner isn't dealt with by keeper Kailen Sheridan and Hayley Raso is on hand to tap in her second of the match.
No VAR checks, Australia really are 2-0 up!

The goal celebration music had played in full, the Canadians were in a team meeting to sort themselves out, it appeared Australia were cruising.
Then VAR intervened. Correctly, but boy did it take some time and the crowd were livid.
Republic of Ireland 0-0 Nigeria
Good bursting run from Nigeria's Toni Payne - no Irish player can get near her - but then she drags a shot wide from 25 yards.

A very tight call in there.
Another scare for Canada though.
Canada 0-1 Australia
A let-off for Canada. Australia's Ellie Carpenter is standing in an offside position when Mary Fowler drills her shot at goal.
She's blocking defender Kadeisha Buchanan from getting to the ball so the goal is ruled out.
Republic of Ireland 0-0 Nigeria
First shot on target of the game from either team but Republic striker Kyra Carusa's header is straight at the keeper.
As things stand, Nigeria could afford to lose this game 1-0 and still go through.
Canada 0-2 Australia
Hang on, we're checking this. Boos at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.

Canada get drawn all over the place.
Fantastic play inside the penalty area, Gilles tries to make the clearance but Fowler is the first to react from Australia.
That's what you need in these scenarios, players wanting to be hungry to score, and that is what Fowler did.
Look at what it means, look at the scenes among the fans in the stands!
Republic of Ireland 0-0 Nigeria
Not a whole load of real action at either end in this one. As things stand Nigeria could be facing a last-16 tie with England (if the Lionesses keep top spot in Group D).
Mary Fowler
Lift-off!
Where are the Canadian defenders as the ball falls to Hayley Raso in the box? She drills a shot across the face of goal which is kept out by a combination of Canadian keeper Kailen Sheridan and defender Kadeisha Buchanan.
But Mary Fowler is on hand to smash home the rebound.

This is such a tricky situation for Nigeria. Do they go for it and push for the win, or do they hold what they have and get through that way?
It's a dangerous balance.
There are a group of Nigerian journalists in front of me who have been very quiet since Australia scored in Melbourne. They know exactly what is on the line.

Better from Canada.
Near-post delivery, flick-on, and Leon does well to keep the ball alive.
Unfortunate that she is off balance and can't get the delivery back in [to the middle] that she wants.
First and second contact on the set-piece for Canada, something for Australia to be mindful of.
Canada 0-1 Australia
Big chance for Canada as a corner is flicked on by number seven Julia Grosso but Adriana Leon can't stretch to the ball to meet it first time at the back post.
Instead she eventually controls it with her back to goal but the chance fizzles out before she can find a team-mate.
Any initial contact and that might have been 1-1.

The full-backs for Canada in this game are wearing 8 and 10.
Shirt number purists everywhere are disgusted.

On criticism aimed at Australia coach Tony Gustavsson:
He is a very experienced manager, he trusts their game plan and the players on the pitch.
Having played against one of his club sides, he is always shouting orders on the sideline, which for an opposition player can be intimidating.
