Ireland's Heather Payne is hobbling. She suffered an injury in the warm-up to the Canada game which saw her replaced in the starting XI minutes before kick-off.

So far so good for Australia, but Canada have been so disappointing. They look nervous, subdued and uncreative.

It is hard to see where the Olympic champions can summon two goals from at this stage.

    Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC Two

We've seen in the WSL that if you press Kadeisha Buchanan she is not happy.

She is comfortable in possession but when if you put a high press right on her she finds it difficult.

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Nigeria

Nigeria, who could actually afford to lose 2-0 now, have an early corner but it's straight into the side-netting.

  6. KICK-OFFpublished at 12:03 British Summer Time 31 July 2023

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Nigeria

I'd wondered if they'd sync the second-half kick-offs but obviously not. We are back under way here a few minutes before the other game will restart.

  7. 'Canada can't cope at the back'published at 12:01 British Summer Time 31 July 2023

    HT: Canada 0-2 Australia

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
    Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC Two

Canada can't cope with Australia's four up top.

They have been harried and hassled when trying to play the ball out from the back and that means they are forced to go long.

Canada have been prevented from playing their own game.

  9. 'New shape the difference'published at 11:59 British Summer Time 31 July 2023

    Fara Williams
Former England midfielder on BBC Two

I think we said in the build up that Australia have struggled to adapt without Sam Kerr.

But they've changed things today. Gone with a flat back four, two in front and then four up top, which has helped them be more aggressive.

The new shape has allowed them to get in better advanced positions with better [final] quality.

Despite Vera Pauw stating she wanted full focus on the Republic of Ireland’s final World Cup match, the subject of her future as manager has been the hot topic in Brisbane in the build-up to this game.

The pre-match press conference was pretty tense as Pauw was asked if she felt if both she and the players deserved clarity over her future. “Yes”, was the one-word response.

Pauw, who guided the Irish to their first major tournament, has been very vocal in her desire to stay on but the longer the wait goes on the more it seems unlikely her contract will be extended beyond the World Cup.

There’s no doubting the success the 60-year-old has created on the pitch, but away from the field the World Cup build-up was dominated by allegations of misconduct from her time at Houston Dash in 2018.

Pauw has been as stern in her denials as you can get, and she has been backed to date by the FAI, but there’s no doubting it has clouded aspects of the tournament – especially for the players who are meant to be at the pinnacle of their careers.

Regardless of what happens after the World Cup, there’s no doubt that both Pauw and the team will want to end this chapter on a high as the Irish look to go out with a win.

Who needs goal updates on your phone when you've got pockets of Australia fans at the game?

They're keeping everyone right up to date and are probably enjoying themselves more than either the Irish or Nigerian fans at the moment.

This one hasn't been a classic.

Tony Gustavsson is a very unhappy man. He was almost on the field of play remonstrating with Stephanie Frappart, who gave him a booking. He them went over to moan at the fourth official.

I'm not sure why he's so testy. His side are in control and playing well.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 31 July 2023

Australia manager Tony Gustavsson is booked by the referee for arguing with the fourth official.

Not sure what's quite happened there.

Canada need an injection of pace and creativity in those central areas.

They need to get in the box and cause more of a nuisance [for the Australia defence].
