Another chance for Canada who win their first corner.

  9. 'Australia making life difficult for Canada'published at 11:21 British Summer Time 31 July 2023

    Canada 0-1 Australia

    Anita Asante
Former England defender on BBC Two

You can just see how well organised and disciplined this Australian side are.

They are making it really difficult for Canada to play the ball through the thirds.

Canada are unable to get their full backs, Lawrence and Riviere, up the pitch and into forward areas.

Australia have started brilliantly, the crowd are up and the good feeling is back.

However, against both Republic of Ireland and Nigeria, they allowed that to slip by stepping off the gas after taking the lead. They can't do that against strong opponents here.

    Canada 0-1 Australia

Canada are enjoying their best spell of possession but Australia are incredibly disciplined in defence.

Two solid banks of four are behind the ball with strikers Caitlin Foord and Mary Fowler quick to close down.

Vera Pauw is deep in thought on the Irish bench. There is a growing feeling in Ireland that this could be her last game in charge.

    Canada 0-1 Australia

A warning from Canada as Adriana Leon drifts inside on to her left foot and curls a shot just wide of the far corner.

She had Jessie Fleming available in plenty of space on the overlap.

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Nigeria

Nigeria should be ahead. Louise Quinn's misplaced pass gives the ball to the Nigerians and star striker Asisat Oshoala speeds away and flashes a shot just wide of the far post.

    A let-off for the Irish.

Canada have to do better defensively here.

They are just allowing players to run across the front of them in the box.

  16. GREAT SAVE!published at 11:15 British Summer Time 31 July 2023

    Canada 0-1 Australia

Steph Catley and Hayley Raso combine again and it's so nearly 2-0 Australia.

Rasso places her shot into the corner but is denied by a superb diving save from Canadian stopper Kailen Sheridan.

    Fingertips.

There was a big cheer when Ireland were just knocking the ball about in the middle of the park.

Now we know why. News is filtering through of Australia's goal.

    Game on!

I was sure that it was offside - Buchanan steps up at the last moment as Catley runs forward. But maybe the centre-half Gilles is playing her onside in the middle.

A great calm and composed finish from Raso. Low and hard and very difficult for the keeper to get down to make the save.

Canada need to get tighter to players, too much space all round for Australia's front line.

  20. Postpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 31 July 2023

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Nigeria

It is actually a very dangerous corner, albeit from Megan Connolly, and Nigeria keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie claws it away from her own line.
