Liverpool started the game really sharply, like a house on fire.

For the Missy Bo Kearns goal that was ruled out, it seemed to me that Heather Payne plays her onside on the far side. The officials have seen that differently.

Since then Everton have stunted the energy of Liverpool, dimmed the noise of the crowd and taken control for large parts.

Julia Olme with half a chance to get Brighton level as she turns brilliantly on the left of the Spurs penalty area but her right-foot shot just lacks that bit of curl and drifts wide of the far post.

Jessica Naz's first few touches set up a rare second-half attack for Spurs.

Celin Bizet smashes a wayward effort well wide from distance.

More from Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall, who said the decision for Beth Mead to pass for Alessia Russo's winning goal instead of shoot herself was a demonstration of her footballing intelligence.

"If Beth Mead just takes a shot it is going to be blocked and that's what makes her so special, she instead passes to Alessia Russo and it's a goal," said Eidevall.

Asked if this could be the start of a great club partnership between Mead and Russo - who moved to Arsenal from Manchester United in the summer - after their success with England, Eidevall said: "We've seen them together in the national team and it's not a hope that's just a fantasy, we've seen that work really well with England."
