    HT: Brighton 1-1 Tottenham

Brighton's main threat in that first half appeared to come down the left via Pauline Bremer and Julia Olme.

Spurs' Finnish international Eveliina Summanen caught the eye in midfield, completing 35 of 36 attempted passes, to keep the visitors ticking.

That's a smidgen over 97% accurate. She must have a sat-nav in her head.

    A massive goal for Everton.

If we are being honest Megan Finnigan doesn't have to do much to win the header.

All she does is take a few steps back into space and has plenty of time to get a firm header onto the cross to send it into the net.

Stepping up when her side need her, she always delivers goals in these big games.

There it is! Everton had started to test Liverpool's defence by getting in behind down the right-hand side and that is reward.

Meg Finnigan is such a threat from set-pieces and she gets the better of Liverpool debutant Sophie Roman Haug in the air.

Why it was Roman Haug and not Jenna Clark or Gemma Bonner marking her, who knows.

Liverpool will be really disappointed with that, to concede from a set piece after such a brilliant start to the season.

It was all a bit easy for Megan Finnigan.

    An absolute bullet header!

The corner swoops in and Everton captain Megan Finnigan is there to stick it in the back of the net at the far post.

That is the first goal Liverpool have conceded this season.

Lovely stuff from Nicoline Sorensen who latches onto a ball from deep in midfield.

She chops inside and gets a shot away but Gemma Bonner is on hand to turn behind. Great block.

    Corner to Everton.

It strikes me at the moment as being a game that neither side wants to lose.

Neither side has stuck their neck out as it were so far, not many risks being taken.

We're about half way through this opening period with both sides yet to get on the board.

What Everton are finding is that when they do move the ball quickly they are able to bypass the Liverpool press.

Liverpool's fullbacks are playing so high that once they are out of the game, there are now huge spaces appearing for Everton to exploit in behind.

Now it is just a case of whether they can be clinical when they do get into those spaces.

    HT: Brighton 1-1 Tottenham

That Martha Thomas goal for Spurs was just one of their two on target in that first half.

Robert Vilahamn's team enjoyed 62% of the possession but had lacked cutting edge until the Scotland forward's intervention.

    Liverpool 0-0 Everton

    Great chance!

Everton do really well down the right and Nicoline Sorensen cuts it back for Hanna Bennison but the Swedish forward can't sort her feet out to slot past Rachael Laws and the visitors' best opportunity of the game so far goes begging.

    A glorious opportunity.

  12. HALF-TIMEpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 15 October 2023

That Spurs goal with virtually the last kick of the first half means it's all square at the break.

Everton are struggling to get the ball into the midfield. They are doing ok playing out from the back initially, but when they go to make that next pass forward they come unstuck.

Liverpool's forwards are full of confidence and pressing high, backing themselves to nick the ball back.

Everton have settled into this game more but goalkeeper Rachael Laws is still yet to be tested.

Matt Beard will be relatively pleased, though that early intensity has definitely dropped from Liverpool.

After that blistering start from Liverpool it's all gone a bit quiet.

This Anfield crowd would really like something to cheer about.

    Martha Thomas

Drew Spence curls a superb effort against the Brighton crossbar and Martha Thomas pounces on the rebound, drilling a low effort past the diving Nicky Evrard in the Brighton goal, to register her third goal of the campaign.

The Belgian keeper got something on that and will maybe be a touch disappointed not to keep, Thomas' strike out.

Ceri Holland, who has looked lively so far, does well to keep hold of the ball in the middle of the park but can't make it count.

Liverpool putting the pressure on here as Everton continue to make mistakes in the middle of the park, giving the ball away in dangerous areas.

They will be punished for one of these at some point.
