If Hojlund is to come on, there's a good chance it will be for Anthony Martial, who only touched the ball nine times in the first half.

Chris: Neither of these sides are looking particularly convincing. Arsenal of last season would have pretty much finished the game off by now.

Will: I've been following Hojlund's career closely from his days at Copenhagen and feel like the stage is set for him to win this for United. He was known as the Hellhound at Sturm Graz, which sounds like the perfect fit for the Red Devils and an absolute nightmare for Arsenal.

A really exciting game of football. A lot of to-ing and fro-ing. Two brilliant finishes and well-worked and both teams are a little bit unsure as to how they are playing. Two really good quality goals.

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports: "The boys not only listened in the meetings they executed brilliantly.

“What was really pleasing is that we scored two goals from set pieces and one was an own goal.

“We need to be 100% in the set piece moments as well and that was really cool.

“It was a hot afternoon and it was not always easy to play, but we really controlled the game in a really good way. A top team performance.

“Everybody showed up. It was a top game, the best for a while to be honest."

On Trent Alexander-Arnold: "Not great. It is a hamstring but we have to wait for further assessment. He thought it is not massive but he hasn’t had a lot of hamstring injuries so we will have to wait."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to BBC MOTD after the win over Aston Villa: "I think it is one of these phrases in football, that an early goal would help the game and it helped us definitely. It was worked on the training ground. He [Szoboszlai] is a threat.

"We will never find out what would happen if we didn't score early but the game in general was good. I couldn't respect Aston Villa and Unai Emery more. A lot of teams will struggle against them but today we were really, really strong. That is an important sign for us that we can do that."

On his 'new-look' side: "All the big [players] of the past years weren't on the pitch today. The Milner's, Henderson's. Fabinho and Van Dijk. You have to let them grow into the new roles and I saw a top performance. A lot of desire and the willingness to defend together. But in possession we were really good. We mixed it up nicely. Without rushing it or forcing it. And that's why we won."

On Trent Alexander-Arnold's injury: "We will see. He felt the hamstring. Hopefully it is not serious but I don't know. It was before he had the shot he felt it. We will see. I hope it is not too serious."

Michael: Seen a lot softer challenges given as red cards. Saka is lucky there.

Beppe: Casemiro gets sent off for that Saka tackle, no question.

Anon: Saka is getting a 2nd yellow in this game. Can see how frustrated he is from a mile off. Can Arteta is the question?

    Arsenal 1-1 Manchester United

A very crucial block from Victor Lindelof to keep Bukayo Saka's shot away from testing Andre Onana. Saka had shifted the ball on to his left and looked to curl the ball into the top corner from 18 yards out.

A lot of sloppy turnovers of possession. It hasn't been one of those high quality games when the ball is being pinged about.

They were good goals. High level goals but the general play has been scruffy.

Kyle: Seems like everyone's against Havertz, even the media with their negative narrative. Missing chances is part of the game. The reason he's getting chances is that he's always in the right place at the right time. He'll convert one of those chances at some point.

Michael: United are missing Shaw driving inside from left back to escape the press. Dalot not the same.

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 40 mins

Bukayo Saka catches the foot of Bruno Fernandes and the Arsenal player gets a yellow card, while the Manchester United one is left hobbling a bit.

Marcus Rashford collects the ball in a similar position to where he started his run that led to his goal.

Ben: How did we just know that Arsenal equaliser was coming immediately? Only United could lose their heads so soon after scoring somewhat against the run of play. No solidity or concentration whatsoever.

Liam: I don't know what Arteta said to Odegaard on the touch line after Rashford scored but it worked!

Adam: Eriksen in 45 seconds showed both his strengths and weaknesses. Superb ball to Rashford, absolutely no awareness defensively to stop Odegaard.
