    There's the third!

Nicolas Jackson deservedly gets his first goal in a Chelsea shirt and it's set up by double goalscorer Raheem Sterling.

The winger fires in a low cross and Jackson is alive in the box to get round his man and poke the ball in.

  3. YELLOW CARDpublished at 73 mins

    Chelsea 2-0 Luton

Chelsea want three as Enzo Fernandez fires a free-kick over the Luton wall and narrowly wide.

At the other end the midfielder finds himself isolated and takes out substitute Jacob Brown.

Fernandez gets a yellow, while the resulting Ross Barkley free-kick sails way over.

Luton immediately make a double change. Issa Kabore and Elijah Adebayo come off.

  6. 'Sterling finds the right space for the chance'published at 21:29 British Summer Time 25 August 2023

    Chelsea 2-0 Luton

    Jamie Carragher
Former Liverpool defender on Sky Sports

    Chelsea needed that second goal.

Talk about getting in the right positions in the box, Raheem Sterling is involved out wide but doesn't stop there.

He recognises Malo Gusto has got into a crossing position and he finds himself that yard of space to get the shot away.

Looks very much like he will be the match winner for Chelsea, and the nerves that had begun to creep in around the stadium are gone now.

  7. goal

GOAL - Chelsea 2-0 Lutonpublished at 68 mins

    Raheem Sterling

    Too good!

Moises Caicedo plays in Malo Gusto who drills a low cross in for Raheem Sterling and the Englishman makes no mistake, passing the ball into the bottom corner.

Sterling has been unplayable so far today and Chelsea have their cushion.

Sterling probably should have scored that. The chance was certainly easier than his opener.

Chelsea come forward again and Nicolas Jackson wins a corner, seeing his latest shot deflect harmlessly behind.

  9. CLOSE!published at 66 mins

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

    Almost 2-0 Chelsea.

A long ball over the top is brought down by Nicolas Jackson who sends Raheem Sterling through. But the angle is tight and the goalscorer drags his effort wide.

  10. 'Game getting stretched'published at 21:23 British Summer Time 25 August 2023

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

    Jamie Carragher
Former Liverpool defender on Sky Sports

The game is becoming very end to end now.

That may enable Chelsea to go on and get that second goal, although Luton are looking a bigger threat, Chelsea don't have that same control as in the first half.

  11. Postpublished at 64 mins

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

There are gaps at the back and Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez is able to set Raheem Sterling free down the right. His cut-back finds the advancing Ben Chilwell but the Blues skipper's shot is blocked by Reece Burke.

  13. CLOSE!published at 60 mins

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

At 1-0, Luton are still in this.

Tahith Chong goes clear down the right, cutting the ball back to Carlton Morris who switches the play to Elijah Adebayo who then sets up Ryan Giles.

The Englishman gets his head down and fires a first-time shot, but Chelsea stopper Robert Sanchez is able to gather at the second attempt.

Fair play Luton haven’t played amazing here but we get no credit for anything. Just being here is an achievement. Need a bit of luck here.

With the divide in money spent between these two clubs over the last couple of years , you would expect Chelsea to be Ten-nil up!!

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

No VAR check. Luton survive and Chelsea get back on the ball, keeping possession at the back.

  16. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 57 mins

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

Nicolas Jackson goes down in the box under pressure from Tom Lockyer.

Robert Jones says no penalty and I reckon the referee is right with that call.

There was contact, a slight push in the back, but not nearly enough.

  17. 'Chilwell may regret that if Luton come back'published at 21:14 British Summer Time 25 August 2023

That's awful, it really is. Such poor decision making from Chilwell.

Maybe he was reluctant to use his right foot, or lost his bearings a little..?

I'm just trying to find excuses as to why he wouldn't shoot there.

The goal was right in front of him.

If Luton get back into the game, that moment will certainly be looked at.

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

Raheem Sterling is having another great game and plays an inch-perfect pass in behind that sets up Enzo Fernandez, but the Argentine's first-time effort goes straight into the side-netting.

  19. Postpublished at 53 mins

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

More Chelsea attacks, the Blues are well on top now, but Nicolas Jackson's shot goes straight at Tomas Kaminski in the Luton net.

  20. Postpublished at 51 mins

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

Again Chelsea come forward as Nicolas Jackson fires a shot in from a tight angle which is tipped behind by Luton stopper Thomas Kaminski.

From the corner, Tom Lockyer drags down Thiago Silva in the box, but the referee doesn't spot it and VAR says no.
