    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

Tahith Chong is furious. Wing-back Issa Kabore doesn't continue his run and the midfielder is made to look a little foolish as his pass goes to no one and straight out of play.

Might be a little harsh but I feel it sums up Luton's start.

  2. 'Luton need to watch gaps in midfield'published at 20:39 British Summer Time 25 August 2023

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

    Jamie Carragher
Former Liverpool defender on Sky Sports

Luton just need to be careful that their midfield three doesn't get separated too much.

It is getting a little stretched, the gaps getting bigger. They need to stay compact and remain a tight unit.

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

A lazy pass from Marvelous Nakamba nearly sets up Raheem Sterling for a break upfield, but this time the forward can't bring the ball under control and it skids away from him to a defender.

That said, Chelsea are looking pretty comfortable, in and out of possession.

Just bring him down, take a yellow card...

To be fair to the Luton defenders, Sterling's quick footwork was absolutely brilliant.

Mark: Good from Raheem. But my god the defending was a disgrace literally getting out of his way. It's going to be a very long season for Luton. The keeper should be furious at them.

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

Chelsea's Malo Gusto sees his name up in lights as a corner is headed out to him on the edge of the box.

He's leaning back as he strikes the ball though and it skids off his shin into the crowd.

I’d really like Luton to stay up. They bring such character to the EPL. And I say that as Brenford fan.

Luton being the premiership is testament to the bad/weak refereeing in the championship. They kicked, bullied and time delayed against better more deserving teams. At least them getting hammered in the premiership raises the standard in the championship!

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 30 mins

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

Luton do have to be a little careful. They pick up another yellow card as Marvelous Nakamba catches Conor Gallagher on the sideline.

  9. 'Luton stepping up the physicality'published at 20:30 British Summer Time 25 August 2023

These last few attacks from Luton have been a little reminder to Chelsea that Morris and Adebayo are a handful.

We've seen more of that physicality from Luton in the last five to ten minutes.

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 28 mins

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

Top defending from Chelsea's Levi Colwill who sprints back to deal with Carlton Morris who goes clear down the left.

The defender stands his ground, winning the ball back, before starting a counter-attack that ends with a cynical foul from Luton captain Tom Lockyer on Nicolas Jackson.

Lockyer is booked and Jackson recieves some treatment.

    That's better from Luton.

Chelsea dealt well with the initial attack but the long ball into the channel past Thiago Silva, with the midfielders running beyond, will cause Chelsea problems.

No one likes to run towards their own goal.

Luton just haven't managed to get that ball executed enough in the game.

Better from Luton who pepper in a couple of crosses. They're all headed away though.

  13. Postpublished at 24 mins

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

Chelsea choose to go, driving down the left, but the move fizzles out when Nicolas Jackson's heavy touch bundles the ball out of play.

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

It's a very, very good goal from a very good player.

Back to the action and it's still all Chelsea, although they're a bit more reserved now, prioritising possession.

It's been an excellent start to the season for Raheem Sterling. The way he scored that goal is how he's played the first two games, running at defenders and causing problems.

  17. 'This is the real Raheem Sterling for Chelsea now'published at 20:20 British Summer Time 25 August 2023

    Chelsea 1-0 Luton

    Jamie Carragher

What a goal Raheem Sterling, he was the best player on the pitch last week.

Dancing feet, close control, to go in between two players is brilliant, and then when he comes into the box the question is: can he finish?

On his weaker foot to find the far corner, gets the shot off quickly and places the ball away from Kaminski.

GOAL - Chelsea 1-0 Lutonpublished at 18 mins

    Raheem Sterling

A properly good goal from the man of the moment.

Raheem Sterling collects the ball on the sideline and immediately has his head down, driving towards the goal.

He beats one, beats another, sits a final defender down before passing the ball into the far bottom corner.

    Chelsea deservedly go ahead!

    Chelsea 0-0 Luton

A huge warning sign that for Luton, to be fair though they respond with an attack of their own, winning a corner which is hacked clear by a Blues defender.
