Everton make two changes from the team who drew 2-2 at Sheffield United on 2 September as Dwight McNeil and Vitaliy Mykolenko come in for James Garner and Nathan Patterson.

Portuguese striker Beto - signed from Italian side Udinese for a fee reportedly worth up to £30m in August - has a "lovely rawness", according to manager Sean Dyche, who has handed him his Goodison Park debut today.

Forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin is on the bench after recovering from the facial injury he sustained during his side's 4-0 defeat at Aston Villa on 20 August, but on-loan Leeds winger Jack Harrison is still building his fitness following a groin problem.

Lewis Dobbin returns in reserve after missing the trip to Bramall Lane, while Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski have overcome minor issues.

Seamus Coleman and Dele Alli have been training individually and are not fit to play yet, and Arnaut Danjuma is seeking to score in three consecutive club appearances for the first time since March 2021, when he was in the Championship with Bournemouth.

Everton XI: Pickford, Mykolenko, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Young, Onana, Gueye, McNeil, Doucoure, Danjuma, Beto.

Subs: Virginia, Patterson, Keane, Godfrey, Garner, Onyango, Dobbin, Chermiti, Calvert-Lewin.

Arsenal also have an absentee with a groin issue: Thomas Partey is out. Jurrien Timber has a long-term knee injury, as did Mohamed Elneny, who has returned to training but is not yet fit to play.

Arsenal XI: Raya, Gabriel, White, Saliba, Zinchenko, Odegaard, Rice, Saka, Nketiah, Martinelli, Vieira.

Mark: If (and it's a massive if) Chelsea do come good in a year or two, at least the "they bought their way to success" narrative won't stand up, as currently we are truly dreadful.

John: Wonder how long it will be before Chelsea do a 'Graham Potter' and lose patience with Poch and bring in Roberto de Zerbi? For the sake of Brighton and entertaining football, I sincerely hope they don't.

Mike: I don't know who half these Chelsea players are. Much more disturbing, however, is I don't think they know who each other are.
