Southampton keeper Gavin Bazunu denies Sunderland's Luis Semedo.

Four Southampton defenders were desperately chasing him down but Semedo had all the time in the world.

Shoots across goal but Bazunu makes himself big and makes a great save with his leg.

Sunderland could have scored a fifth.

On the counter, the ball is switched to Jack Clarke on the nearside, who gathers and dribbles toward the Southampton box unapposed.

His low cross (maybe a shot) is deflected by Saints defender Jan Bednarek but straight back to Clarke who shoots from close range.

Southampton boss Russell Martin has his face in his hands as he argues with the official near the dugout.

He made some changes at the half and whilst his side look a little more sprightly, Sunderland are still the more dangerous team by far.

If we're being honest. Saints have been terrible today.

    Sunderland 4-0 Southampton

Southampton have had a couple of really good chances in the last five minutes.

Defender Mason Holgate, on loan from Everton and making his debut, had a free header at the back post but he missed it wide.

Minutes later, a Ryan Fraser cross lands for Sekou Mara on the edge of the six-yard box and he stretches for a header but sends it over the bar.

Ooof Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson gets away with one.

I didn't see who it was, apologies, but a Southampton player had a nice shot on goal and it was fumbled by Patterson in the six-yard-box.

The ball squirted to the side and toward the post, but luckily for him, wide.

You have to feel for the Southampton keeper Gavin Bazunu.

The pressure on his goal has been relentless today.

The 21-year-old's position in the team was questioned by some fans early this season but Saints boss Russell Martin was quick to stand by his young shot stopper, saying he thought his defenders needed to do better.

  20. goal

GOAL: Swansea 1-1 Bristol Citypublished at 13:39 British Summer Time 2 September 2023

    Mark Sykes (48 mins)

To say this had been coming would be QUITE the understatement.

Mark Sykes, who had a goal disallowed in the first half for offside, is not to be denied this time.

Joe Williams plays him in and he does brilliantly to come in on to his left foot and curl home a fine finish.
