I'm a little annoyed.

You've got to have a holding player in this Southampton system.

The problem is Flynn Downes and Will Smallbone are too similar in midfield.

We've calmed down a little at the Stadium of Light.

A little back-and-forth between these two sides now.

Sunderland still threatening and putting pressure on the Southampton defence.

It's still Bristol City who are having the better of this game even as they trail Swansea.

The visitors have just missed another golden opportunity, with Jason Knight seeing a low goalbound shot blocked off the line by Swans captain Matt Grimes.

It would be remarkable if Swansea hold out until half-time.

No goals and no shots on target in this League Two encounter so far.

The last time Sunderland's Tony Mowbray came up against Southampton's Russell Martin was when the Saints boss was in charge at Swansea last season.

It was a tough outing for the Black Cats who lost 3-1 and also fell to Martin’s men 2-1 earlier in the season too.

Is it time for Mowbray’s revenge?

Sam Edozie has to hit the target!

The Southampton winger has the ball five yards outside the Sunderland box, plenty of space, no pressure but he shoots a low powerful shot wide of the nearside post.

Golden opportunity for the visitors there, missed.

Approaching the halfway point of this first half.

Sunderland are well on top and look dangerous coming forward.

But Southampton are settling into this game.

The home side have responded pretty well to falling behind to that early Kevin Nisbet strike.

Defender Dion Sanderson is the latest to go close but his header goes over the bar.

Disappointment for Sunderland's Pierre Ekwah who was awarded the second goal.

It looked like it took a deflection at the time.

Turns out it did hit s Saints player, Flynn Downes, and it is now recorded as an own goal.

Southampton have a free-kick from a favourable position.

Ten yards outside the Sunderland box on the far side.

Ryan Manning's low shot beats the wall and is heading for the near post, but it is saved down low by Anthony Patterson - no danger.

Here come Sunderland again.

Abdoullah Ba with the ball at his feet inside Southampton's half down the right side.

He has so much space. Enters the nearside edge of the Saints box, pulls the ball across to his left foot and swipes at it.

But he is off-balance and curls it well wide.

Now it's Southampton's turn to come forward.

Tricky back-and-forth play in close quarters on the corner of the Sunderland box by Will Smallbone and Sekou Mara but it amounts to nothing.

Bristol City may have shaded the opening 10 minutes here but they've fallen behind to a nicely worked Swansea goal.

It's a neat finish by local boy Liam Cullen but the goal is as much about the assist, a perfectly weighted through ball by Arsenal loanee Charlie Patino.

What an unbelievable start for Sunderland on a beautifully sunny day at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats well on top and threatening the visitors goal at will at the moment.

What good play again.

Pierre Ekwah is not afraid to take a shot and it's a great strike from the edge of the box.

Who needs a striker?

Not quite as early as that goal up at Sunderland but Bristol City have the ball in the Swansea net.

Mark Sykes' effort won't count though as the flag is up for offside.

My word.

That is as good a start as you are going to see in any football match.

That will have knocked the wind out of Southampton - can they respond?
