What a night for Leicester, who go top of the Championship table after smashing Southampton at St Mary's.

The Foxes are two points clear of Preston in second, who are the only team who can pinch back the top spot with a win at home to Plymotuh tomorrow.

Hull's late equaliser earns them a point and moves them up to fifth, while Coventry, in 11th, will have to feel like they squandered a chance to leap up the table.

  3. 'Hull were quicker in the second half'published at 22:12 British Summer Time 15 September 2023

Hull had to take chances. They were getting in two-v-one situations in wide areas. The chances came.

For 60 minutes, Coventry were really good and caused Hull a lot of problems. The press and organisation was there but they tired.

Kasey Palmer, who I normally praise and does very well, wasn't quite at the races when he came on and Coventry lost their grip of the game. Ben Wilson made two smart saves.

Then bang: just when you think you may scrape a 1-0 win, Hull score with a second-phase set play from a corner that was originally cleared.

Hull will say they tidied up possession, weren't losing it so much in the second half and were moving it more quickly.

Aaron Connolly came off his man with a little back flick through a ruckus of players. Generally, Coventry will probably be relieved they've got something out of the game.

  4. Southampton have 'problems'published at 22:07 British Summer Time 15 September 2023

    Southampton 1-4 Leicester

    Leicester punished Southampton.

I am a little worried after what I have seen tonight.

The Foxes could have scored two more goals really.

The Saints midfield is a big problem.

  5. Coventry tough to crackpublished at 22:04 British Summer Time 15 September 2023

    FT: Hull 1-1 Coventry

Mark Robins rarely looks overjoyed and you don't imagine that changing in his post-match interviews after Coventry dropped points late, but their record of two defeats in 23 league matches is still impressive.

Twelve of those games have finished all-square, and this is the first time they've drawn four in a row since March 2012.

    Southampton 1-4 Leicester

BBC Radio Solent sports editor and Saints commentator

Southampton have lost two in a row now in the Championship.

They have been brought back down to earth after a bright start to the season.

  7. FULL-TIMEpublished at 22:00 British Summer Time 15 September 2023

    Southampton 1-4 Leicester

Leicester go top of the Championship with a dominant away win over Southampton.

Jamie Vardy's opening goal after just 20 seconds was pretty astonishing and the visitors just kept adding and adding as the game went on.

Southampton had spells of positive play midway through the first half and at the beginning of the second, but ultimately were absolutely nowhere in this one and often looked muddled and confused at the back.

A deserved win for the Foxes who came-in over the top rope at St Mary's and laid a hammer blow to Russell Martin's men.

  8. RED CARDpublished at 90+5 mins

    Southampton 1-4 Leicester

    Southampton's Kamaldeen Sulemana is gone!

In the final seconds of the game the substitute is sent packing.

He has only just come back into the side but now he is going to miss games.

Looks like he trod on James Justin's foot trying to make a challenge, but it's hard to really see on replay.

    FT: Salford 0-2 Notts County

It's been quite the turnaround for Notts County since they lost 5-1 at Sutton on the first day of the season.

They've also scored 11 goals in their past five league games, with Dan Crowley finding the net in two of their most recent three.

I think everyone here at St Mary's has decided to go home now.

    Salford 0-2 Notts County

It might turn out to be a one-night stand at the top of the table, but Notts County have climbed to the League Two summit!

David McGoldrick's first-half goal and Dan Crowley's strike in the second have given the Magpies a fifth win of the season - this time at Salford, who are 18th after their fifth defeat in their opening eight league matches.

The only team who can catch County this weekend are Gillingham. They'll be two points off the top at the start of their game at home to 14th-placed Morecambe tomorrow.

  12. Postpublished at 88 mins

    Southampton 1-4 Leicester

As it stands Leicester are going top of the Championship tonight.

If they can hold on to this lead, which looks pretty certain with only a few minutes left, they will be two points clear of Preston in second.

    Southampton will remain seventh.

  13. 'Hull are building at home'published at 21:48 British Summer Time 15 September 2023

    FT: Hull 1-1 Coventry

    Peter Swan
Former Hull City defender on BBC Radio Humberside

You come here and you might go 1-0 up but we're never going to give in.

We'll still be unbeaten at home when Leeds come here [on Wednesday]. We're trying to build a fortress.

There was good football played by both teams, but at the end, they also showed they'll do anything to win a game of football.

Connolly is a very, very clever striker, and that's why Liam Rosenior has brought him to the club. He's a matchwinner. Right at the end, he goes and gets himself a goal.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 83 mins

    Southampton 1-4 Leicester

A triple substitution for Leicester who raid the bench.

Jamie Vardy removes the captain's armband and makes way for Kelechi Iheanacho.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is off for Yunus Akgun.

And Harry Winks leaves the pitch for Hamza Choudhury.

  15. RED CARDpublished at 21:46 British Summer Time 15 September 2023

    Salford 0-2 Notts County

In case there hadn't been enough excitement in the Championship, tonight's League Two game has delivered two dismissals during seven minutes of added time.

Kevin Berkoe's picked up a second yellow on a bad evening for Salford.

  16. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:44 British Summer Time 15 September 2023

    Hull 1-1 Coventry

Regan Slater slings a cross out of play under pressure from Liam Kelly and the final whistle sounds!

Hull rescue a point through Aaron Connolly's header three minutes from time, the striker redeeming himself for a dreadful earlier miss on an evening when both sides weren't at their best.

A fourth draw on the trot for the Sky Blues, who go 11th. Hull are fifth.

  17. Postpublished at 82 mins

    Southampton 1-4 Leicester

Leicester have no fewer than eight players back defending their box now.

Southampton are trying to find a way through but are forced to pass between themselves laterally before getting pushed back.

This game has dropped into first gear now.

  18. RED CARDpublished at 21:40 British Summer Time 15 September 2023

    Salford 0-2 Notts County

Aaron Nemane has been sent off for a second yellow card for Notts County, who are in added time at Salford.

They're surely heading top of the table, but that might take the gloss off their evening a little.

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 77 mins

    Southampton 1-4 Leicester

    Time for some fresh legs.

Southampton's Che Adams is off and Joe Aribo is on.

Will it make a difference? Just over 10 minutes of regular time left in this one.

  20. EXTRA TIMEpublished at 21:39 British Summer Time 15 September 2023

    Hull 1-1 Coventry

There will be three minutes of added time.

The excitement of that goal appears to have got the better of Hull boss Liam Rosenior, who's booked.
