It is far, far too easy for De Zerbi's team to be cut open and it gives opportunities for Liverpool.

The handball clearly came off the thigh and it didn't even go to VAR.

Glorious chance for Wolves to retake the lead!

Craig Dawson's fine pass releases Nelson Semedo, who cuts inside a backtracking defender to give himself just Emiliano Martinez to beat and then rolls a tame shot straight at the Villa keeper.

I mean it was a poor shot from Mitoma. It wasn't even going goalbound. It looed to me like it hit the thigh first and then went onto his hand

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

    Brighton 1-2 Liverpool

Albion boss Roberto de Zerbi is clearly unhappy that wasn't a penalty, so much so he gets booked.

  8. Saka out for Arsenal, Lewis starts among three City changespublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

Arsenal v Man City (16:30 BST)

The headline team news from Emirates Stadium is that Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, who was a major doubt after limping off during the Champions League defeat by Lens, is absent for today's meeting with Manchester City.

That is one of two changes from the Gunners' previous Premier League outing - a 4-0 win over Bournemouth.

Kai Havertz drops to the bench, as Leandro Trossard and Jorginho start.

Gabriel Martinelli is available as a substitute following his recent hamstring issue.

Arsenal XI: Raya, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Odegaard, Rice, Jorginho, Trossard, Nketiah, Jesus.

Subs: Ramsdale, Partey, Smith Rowe, Martinelli, Kiwior, Tomiyasu, Vieira, Nelson, Havertz.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola makes three changes following his side's first league defeat of the season at Wolves last week.

There are starts for Bernardo Silva, who returned to the squad in midweek, and Rico Lewis after he impressed in the 3-1 win over RB Leipzig, while Josko Gvardiol also comes in.

Manuel Akanji, Matheus Nunes and Jeremy Doku move to the bench, where they are joined by the returning John Stones.

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Walker, Gvardiol, Dias, Ake, Lewis, Kovacic, Foden, Alvarez, Silva, Haaland.

    Brighton 1-2 Liverpool

    Great chance for Brighton!

Kaoru Mitoma and Joao Pedro show great tenacity to get in down the left, with the latter handing over responsibility to the former for a shot that lifts up off Virgil van Dijk's leg and hits his arm.

Not sure that can be a penalty, despite the Albion fans' anger.

To be honest, Mitoma wouldn't have even got Van Dijk involved if he'd not sliced his shot.

    Almost 3-1!

Liverpool looking increasingly dangerous on the break. They work a fine ball wide left for Luis Diaz, who takes a touch and then fires his angled effort over the bar.

Oh, a crucial interception from Trent Alexander-Arnold with his outstretched leg. It prevents Kaoru Mitoma getting away into acres of space down the left.
