This is where Chelsea are really dangerous. The Blues have more pace than a 4x100m relay team and Raheem Sterling has the baton.

Sterling finds Cole Palmer but his ball into the box is ahead of his team-mate and goes out for a goal-kick.

Brentford breathe a sigh of relief.

Chelsea's home form has been pretty stinking.

Just three wins in their past 15 games at the Bridge.

The Blues are straight on the front front from the start today, enjoying a spell of possession in the Brentford half but unable to create any openings.

Oh yes, don't forget about Christopher Nkunku. Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino says the £52m summer signing is "very close" to returning after knee surgery.

"Maybe after next international break he will be involved but not sure," Pochettino said.

"Hopefully we can have him involved as soon as possible. He is a really important player for us."

I've got no worries whatsoever about Brentford. I think they will have a good season, they will start climbing up the table as the weeks go on.

It is a positive football club. The things they have been able to achieve, the performances, the quality, the consistency of results, is remarkable.

They have set such high standards over the years that when they have a little dip everyone begins to worry, but they will be absolutely fine.

I think Chelsea are starting to turn a corner, but they can't afford to slip up in games like today.

As good as we are saying that Brentford can be, Chelsea need to make sure that they stick their chests out today and put on a good performance.

They need to be thinking, 'This is our place, our manor and you aren't getting any points here.'

Is Raheem Sterling playing his way back into England contention? No doubt a peak Sterling would be beneficial for club and country. But where would he fit in Southgate's side at the moment?

Chelsea fans aren't the only ones unhappy with the trip to Wolves moved to Christmas Eve.

Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino's own celebrations have been disrupted as a result.

"The 23rd is my anniversary with my wife and I need to travel to Wolves. Then the 24th for Argentine people is a really important night and hope to arrive in time to celebrate an important night," Pochettino explained.

"It is difficult because it is not easy to change. We need to accept we are in England and it is different to the rest of the world.

"Even if I am not happy I need to try to be in our best level and accept a situation we cannot change."

Asked if his wife could be persuaded to celebrate their anniversary together in Wolverhampton, Pochettino laughed: "I don’t believe I will convince her to come."

This year will see a Premier League match be played on Christmas Eve for the first time since 1995 when Chelsea travel to Wolves.

Chelsea Supporters' Trust has released a statement asking for the Premier League to reverse what it called an "unacceptable" decision.

"Selecting this kick-off time will place another hurdle in the way of many match-going supporters," it said.

"Not only could this lead to staffing issues at Molineux, but holiday transport timetables will further inconvenience supporters.

"The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust will formally request that the Premier League properly consults supporters on this issue and that they reverse this decision."

Nicolas Jackson is young. He needs time to develop and mature. Too much pressure is being put on him by Pochettino. I know he loves giving young players a chance, but let the more experienced players like Mudryk and Sterling lead the line. The lad can learn off these players. Chelsea need a good centre forward in the January window. The current crop are not quite good enough.

    Chelsea v Brentford (12:30 BST)

    Brentford

More from Brentford boss Thomas Frank, whose side earned a long overdue win last time out against Burnley: "A classic top performance from us. We were very energetic, came out with a very high press, really driving forward and getting plenty of crosses into the box. All round a very good showing.

On back five set up for big away games: "When we go to these big grounds where we expect a team that is better than us on paper to attack and dominate the ball more, we need to defend more so I add an extra defender. That is not to say that we want to be defensive, but we need to defend more and be tighter in certain phases of the game.

On Maupay being left out:"He is of course disappointed but he understands the decision. Wissa and Bryan [Mbeumo] are just ahead of him right now, and we need more than the 11 players that start. I can almost guarantee he will come on at some point."

    Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank speaking to TNT Sports:

On their good recent form at Stamford Bridge: "Hopefully another good result today. We believe in ourselves and what we are doing and can hopefully do something good again today.

On Chelsea: "Since we came here for the first time in the Premier League they have two players left from that squad we faced, they have been building a new squad [in the last few years], that look very exciting.

"They have some very exciting players and I am convinced that Pochettino will make them into a very great team. They are already a good team but they will be for sure title contenders in the near future. Definitely contenders for the top four this season."
