The sense of deflation when Chelsea surrendered their two-goal lead to draw with Arsenal on Saturday was palpable.

But when you consider they finished 40 points behind the Gunners in the final standings last season, the fact there was so much frustration at only coming away with a point shows how far Mauricio Pochettino’s side have come in recent weeks.

Much has been made of the daunting fixture list that awaits over the next month or so - with Tottenham, Manchester City and Newcastle just around the corner.

Chelsea's two best performances of the season have arguably come against Liverpool on the opening day and Arsenal on Saturday - showing they’re not afraid to go toe-to-toe with the league’s best.

There’s still plenty of room for improvement - but you imagine important lessons will have been learned about how they managed the closing stages of the game and their failure to see out the win.

The undercurrent of growing positivity around this team should fill fans with hope that a corner is indeed being turned.

Thoughts on Nicolas Jackson so far, people?

Ex-England striker Peter Crouch says it isn't convinced the Senegal striker is the long-term solution.

Agree? Disagree? If you agree who do you think could be the answer?

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to TNT Sports, on bringing in Nicolas Jackson up top: "I think it was an easy decision. Nico [Jackson] is much better after his recovery and he is ready to start the game.

"Cole [Palmer] is going to adopt a different position that suits the team but I was happy with the performance against Arsenal. He knows the role from his time playing at the Man City academy, and I think he will play well for us there.

On absence of Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk: "Both of them felt a small muscle strain yesterday, but I hope they will be available for the bext game. It's not a big issue, should be fixed in the next few days. We are going to miss both of them as they are very good players, but we have a very big squad to cope with that.

"Yes maybe [the arrival of the new baby for Enzo Fernandez] was the reason he could not train and felt uncomfortable yesterday. But he is going to rest now and recover as quick as possible.

On Chelsea's home form this season: "It is so important to start winning here consistently. The fans feel like we can and should be beating any team, and today is a good opportunity with their support to get the three points for them and to keep improving."

I'm sure a lot of you this week, whether you're playing the wildcard or not, are wrestling with which superb FPL assets you're going to have to leave out of your squad.

We can only field seven attacking players in any one gameweek but at the moment all of Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, Ollie Watkins, Mohamed Salah, Bukayo Saka, Son Heung-min, James Maddison, Jarrod Bowen and Kaoru Mitoma feel almost like 'must-haves'.

Your budget may well determine which combination you can actually put together, particularly if you've got Kieran Trippier or Trent Alexander-Arnold in your defence, but it's safe to say they are all excellent picks and it's only with hindsight that we'll be able to tell which were the best ones to go for.

Don't judge the outcome on one gameweek though and if you're not on a wildcard then think carefully before potentially making unnecessary transfers.

My 12-year-old daughter, Sophia, and her friend Hetty are helping me pick my scores this week.

Sophia has gone with Chelsea to edge this one, and I think that's a good shout.

Brentford ended a six-game winless streak by beating Burnley last time out, but I feel Chelsea are improving every week.

They haven't cracked it yet under Mauricio Pochettino, but they are getting there.

I'm going to go with Chelsea but, every time I do that, they seem to to find a way of stuffing it up.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

Many wondered how Brentford would cope without England striker Ivan Toney and, although they've clearly missed his quality, others have stepped up to offer a threat in his absence.

A new-look front three of Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa and Neal Maupay were impressive in last weekend's win over Burnley, with Bees boss Thomas Frank hoping they continue to thrive in tandem.

"It was very promising. You can see how they link up and connect. I asked Wissa to play a bit closer to Neal and they found each other several times," Frank said.

"Hopefully, it’s the first time of many they can perform well. They are very dynamic and difficult to close down."

Today the French-speaking band will have to wait to get back together. Maybe second half if the Bees are chasing the game?

For Brentford, it will be the 3-5-2 formation which Thomas Frank usually employs on the road against the 'bigger' clubs.

That means French striker Neal Maupay drops to the bench, despite a sharp performance against Burnley last weekend.

The huge ovation given to Reece James when he came on against Arsenal demonstrated how much Chelsea want him back fit and firing.

But the England right-back is not ready to start against Brentford.

"He's doing well, training well; he's really close but he'll be on the bench," Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino said yesterday.

Interesting. Not sure what is going on with Fernandez and Mudryk.

Even Brentford boss Thomas Frank did not see that one coming.

"Fernandez is a surprise. He must be injured," he suggests.

Sure we will find out soon enough from Mauricio Pochettino.

For Brentford, full-back Aaron Hickey comes back into contention following a one-game ban.

Rico Henry, Ivan Toney, Kevin Schade, Shandon Baptiste, Mikkel Damsgaard and Joshua Dasilva are long-term absentees.

An early start to the Premier League weekend saw Spurs enjoy their trip across the river last night, beating Palace in a Friday night win which moved them five points clear.

Arch rivals Arsenal have the opportunity to close that gap later on, but first all eyes will be on a West London derby...

If someone had said last Halloween weekend that Tottenham would be top of the Premier League and five points clear this year, you would have thought it was a trick.

Instead the Spurs fans have been given a treat as the revival under Ange Postecoglou continues.

Tottenham might not quite have spooked their rivals just yet, and it is too early to say they are knocking on the door for the title.

But Postecoglou's side are the team to catch early on...
