  3. goal

GOAL: Rotherham 1-0 Prestonpublished at 15:38 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    Jordan Hugill (35 mins)

The league leaders are behind, and it's Jordan Hugill against his own club.

The striker picks the ball up on the left, cuts inside two defenders and lets fly from just outside the box.

His curling shot beats Freddie Woodman in the Preston net and finds the top corner.

And that was Rotherham's first effort of the game.

Good news for Lilywhites fans is they've picked up a joint-division high of seven points from losing positions already this season.

Kylian Kouassi doubled Blackpool’s lead over Reading – doing his PSG namesake proud – and Jordan Rhodes has since added a third for Blackpool at home to Reading.

Talking about a manager under pressure, Mark Hughes at Bradford City is under a lot of pressure.

They were booed off last week after their 1-1 draw against Harrogate Town but the players have responded for their manager.

They are 3-0 up against Newport, with two for Andy Cook.

Swansea lead thanks to Jamal Lowe's first goal since he returned for a second spell at the Welsh club just before the transfer deadline earlier this month.

The on-loan Bournemouth forward savoured the moment in front of the home fans - which is not surprising given that this is the first time he has played for Swansea in front of a proper home crowd.

His previous stint at the club came during those strange Covid times, when goal celebrations were led by substitutes and a few VIPs in the directors' box.

Ipswich striker George Hirst shoots through the Blackburn keeper Aynsley Pears' legs to make it three.

Really bad defending from Rovers who let their former loanee through on goal.

Pears was indecisive, didn't know whether to come out and shut Hirst down and pays for it.

Leeds think they have the lead but the offside flag is up against Georginio Rutter.

    Middlesbrough 0-1 Southampton

    Calvin Andrew
Ex-Rochdale, Mansfield and Port Vale forward on Squad Goals

With the success Michael Carrick enjoyed at Middlesbrough last season you would like to see him given more time.

I don't think his future could balance on today's fixture against Southampton, which was always going to be a tough one.

A lot of Boro's players who were influential last season went back after their loans, so it's then down to the manager and his backroom staff to bring in players of equal ability if not better to try to fill that hole. But he needs time.
