With the success Michael Carrick enjoyed at Middlesbrough last season you would like to see him given more time.

I don't think his future could balance on today's fixture against Southampton, which was always going to be a tough one.

A lot of Boro's players who were influential last season went back after their loans, so it's then down to the manager and his backroom staff to bring in players of equal ability if not better to try to fill that hole. But he needs time.

Kyle Bartley needs a new shirt after a nasty clash of heads with Tom Bradshaw which caused a break in play.

Both players are ok to continue, thank goodness.
