David: City just proving there that if at first you don't succeed try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, and try again.

Omri Glazer makes a real mess of the first shot from Julian Alvarez, who is taking up some brilliant positions. Gets it too close to Glazer who goes down to his right-hand side.

His recovery save is brilliant but he hurts his shoulder in the process.

Manchester City 1-1 Red Star Belgrade

The first mistake of the night from Omri Glazer in the Red Star goal. Julian Alvarez's shot is fumbled by the keeper, although, to be fair to him, he shows superb reactions to get up and block Erling Haaland's follow-up effort.

  4. DISALLOWED GOAL - Manchester Citypublished at 53 mins

Manchester City 1-1 Red Star Belgrade

Rodri plays the ball to Kyle Walker, who gets a bit lucky with his first touch bouncing off an away defender, with the captain then prodding the rebound into the net.

But the assistant's flag is instantly up. Unlike, Red Star's goal, the offside decision is correct and not overruled by VAR. Still 1-1.

    Gavi (54 mins)

    Barca are scoring at will.

They have several bites at the cherry here, with two shots blocked before Gavi gathers the ball 12 yards out and smashes into the roof of the net.

His first ever Champions League goal.

Manchester City 1-1 Red Star Belgrade

Erling Haaland has been involved in a goal for the first time across his last four Champions League appearances, after being involved in eight goals across his prior three games.

Manchester City 1-1 Red Star Belgrade

Goalkeeper Ederson, with the skill of a number 10, sprints out of his penalty area, produces a Cruyff turn with an attacker closing in and calmly knocks the ball to a team-mate.

Calmest man in Etihad Stadium. Not so sure his manager would've been so cool on the sidelines.

And seeing Guardiola's reaction, he wasn't.

  8. goal

GOAL - PSG 1-0 Borussia Dortmundpublished at 21:10 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    Kylian Mbappe (49 mins)

A perfectly taken penalty by Kylian Mbappe, struck into the bottom corner.

Gregor Kobel nearly gets there, the Dortmund keeper diving low to his right, but the spot-kick is too good.

Smiles from Luis Enrique, overseeing his first Champions League game as PSG manager.

Manchester City 1-1 Red Star Belgrade

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

Red Star Belgrade's main hope was to frustrate Manchester City long enough for them to move away from their game plan.

Those hopes have already been dashed.

Red Star probably spent about 20 minutes believing they could secure a famous victory. In actual time played it was probably about three.

  10. PENALTYpublished at 21:08 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    PSG 0-0 Borussia Dortmund

Kylian Mbappe's strike hits Nicklas Sule on the hand and a penalty is given.

It was from close range so it is a harsh call, but VAR gives it.

  11. 'Dancing feet'published at 48 mins

That combination have started the season so, so well. Julian Alvarez feeds the ball into Erling Haaland, then the finish from Alvarez is absolutely ridiculous.

Two quick touches - one to go round Glazer in the Red Star goal and then such a quick second to roll the ball in. Dancing feet from Alvarez and Manchester City level.

    Julian Alvarez

That didn't take long. Manchester City get level within two minutes of the restart.

Erling Haaland with the assist, he plays it to Julian Alvarez and the Argentine shows great quick feet, going round goalkeeper Omri Glazer with his first touch and slotting into the net before the angle got too tight with his second.

Daniel: Five wins out of five in the league, Haaland has seven in five appearances. I don't think we've ever been unbeatable, but I also wouldn't read too much into us being 1-0 down in a half we've dominated.

  16. 'Can't underestimate the performance and the point'published at 21:00 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    FT: AC Milan 0-0 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: “Our first thought wasn’t to defend deep or protect our goal, far from it. We tried to be aggressive, we tried to get at the Milan centre-backs and goalkeepers in the build up phase. Mixed success at that.

“I thought the crowd were very good for Milan tonight. It was a hostile atmosphere and the players had to adjust to that and that is why I don’t think you can underestimate the performance and point. It will look better and better as time goes on. New experiences for a lot of us tonight and hopefully we can grow from this.

“Nick Pope was outstanding today. He was excellent against Brentford. It is no coincidence two big displays from him and two clean sheets, absolutely crucial for us.

“The way we defended was commendable, blocked shots, the amount of times we threw ourselves in front of the ball. You cannot underestimate the power of that draw.

“You can’t underestimate the difficulties of coming here, the emotion of the game, new experiences, we had to take a lot on board today. We can improve but growth and improvement is always things we look to do. We can be very positive about our next game.

"It could be a vital point, who knows?"

  17. 'Red Star will be buoyant'published at 20:58 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

HT: Manchester City 0-1 Red Star Belgrade

Former Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think we've seen it so many times with Manchester City over the years over Pep Guardiola where they've shown their resilience and belief... how many late goals have they scored?

They will keep going and keep probing and dominating and try and wear the opposition down with their slickness of passing.

From Red Star's point of view this couldn't be any better, to go in at half-time even level I think would've been a big thing, they would've had something to cling on. 1-0 up will be a buoyant dressing room.

John: Nearly 80% possession, nearly 20 shots in first half. The team with the “ world Number 1” striker can not score. Not sure they will will be unbeatable this season?

Matty: What a finish from Bukari! Showing that composure at the Etihad is unbelievable. City not looking their usual lethal self!
