    Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Newcastle

Newcastle are inevitably going to start leaving more space at the back now.

Dortmund are going to get opportunities to finish it.

The visitors are a threat going forward, though. Bruno Guimaraes tries to fashion something but the weight of pass isn't quite there.

Fabian Schar has had a boot change. Well, 50% of a boot change. He's now sporting one white one, one blue.

Newcastle fans may not agree but finishing third in the group and dropping into the Europa League wouldn't be a bad thing. They'd be one of the favourites to win it, behind Liverpool. It would be a good chance to go deep into a tournament, build up some European experience so they can come back next year and smash the Champions League.

Joelinton has been handed a tactical note by the away bench. It must be a lengthy one as he has a good long look. Either that or Eddie Howe's writing is shocking.

    Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Newcastle

Tino Livramento is having a fine game.

He's played in two positions so far and has been accomplished in both.

His solid tackle on Karim Adeyemi concedes a corner that Mats Hummels meets but sees his effort diverted wide.

Newcastle have 20 minutes to find a goal.

Beansy does know that Newcastle thrashed PSG, right? A team of household names!

Anthony Gordon is a pest. He won't give up on an attack, harrying Dortmund defenders until one slams the ball against him to win a goal kick.

The Dortmund fan protest seems a little self-defeating. They do realise it is their own pitch they are littering and it won't be Newcastle who have to clean it all up afterwards?

    Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Newcastle

Newcastle are playing much better this half.

They have to believe they can fashion at least one more big chance. They just need to hold firm at the other end.

A second Dortmund goal surely kills this as a contest.

    Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Newcastle

    Neil Lennon
Former Celtic manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

Newcastle are playing ever so well, it is a really good spell by them. But Borussia Dortmund do always look dangerous on the counter.

  11. Barca still trailing Shakhtarpublished at 19:07 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2023

    Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 Barcelona

Barcelona are huffing and puffing but can't break Shakhtar Donetsk's defence down.

The visitors have had a handful of chances from outside the area although they've yet to create anything clear-cut.

Shakhtar last beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp 3-2 in 2008. They last beat them in a home match in 2004.

    Newcastle are still plugging away.

Joe Willock is the latest to test home keeper Gregor Kobel with an angled shot that is saved.

That miss does make you wonder how Joelinton was bought by Newcastle as a striker.

This game is really good. Both teams swinging haymakers.

Two shots in a minute from Dortmund draw Nick Pope into action. The first save is to tip past the post (the ref gives a goal kick), the second is much easier.

  15. 'A golden opportunity'published at 19:01 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2023

    Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Newcastle

    Neil Lennon

It is a golden opportunity. What a ball from Tino Livramento, it is right on the money and all Joelinton has to do is get it on target.

It is absolutely brilliant play by Newcastle.

    Massive chance for Newcastle!

Tino Livramento whips in a brilliant cross from the right that Joelinton charges in to meet, gets to ahead of his marker and somehow heads wide from four yards out.

  17. Postpublished at 55 mins

Newcastle are definitely more of a threat with Miguel Almiron and Anthony Gordon on the pitch. They have more pace and trickery up top.

I think the best thing for Newcastle now is to get Steve Bruce back in, Eddie's done enough.

Al, obviously not a Newcastle fan

Apparently, the litter thrown on to the pitch was in protest of the corrupting influence of money in football.

  20. Six changes for Man Citypublished at 18:55 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2023

Man City v Young Boys (20:00 GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said yesterday he wasn't worried about Erling Haaland playing tonight and then again in Sunday's game against Chelsea.

However, he has made six other changes, with Josko Gvardiol, Ruben Dias, Rico Lewis, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Matheus Nunes all coming into the side that hammered Bournemouth on Saturday.

A goal and four assists is not enough for Jeremy Doku to keep his place.
