The worries have been put to bed - Erling Haaland is in the starting line-up for Manchester City this evening.

Pep Guardiola makes six changes to his side, with Phil Foden and Jack Grealish starting.

Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes also come in while Jeremy Doku is among the substitutes despite scoring and registering four goals at the weekend.

Nathan Ake, Kyle Walker, Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Julian Alvarez are benched.

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Akanji, Stones, Dias, Gvardiol, Kovacic, Lewis, Nunes, Foden, Grealish, Haaland.

Subs: Ortega, Carson, Walker, Phillips, Ake, Doku, Rodri, Alvarez, Silva, Bobb.

Howe shouldn't get the sack. Newcastle did well last season and still much more to come this season. He's doing well and needs to grow with the club. What people need to remember is the amount of injuries and how many games they have played in a short space of time.

    It's wide open.

Dortmund break and Julian Brandt tries to beat a man down the left but fails to take the ball with him. He has a second bite, which he uses to curl a shot that Nick Pope saves.

From the resulting corner, Niklas Fullkrug is found but fires off target.

    Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Newcastle

Newcastle's best move of the game!

They get Tino Livramento in down the right for a fired low cross that flies in front of Anthony Gordon and is taken away from Joelinton by home keeper Gregor Kobel.

    Much more promising.

It is good to see both Anthony Gordon and Miguel Almiron on. Both will bring plenty of punch to the Newcastle attack.

    What's this?

Suddenly the home fans throw a load of litter on to the pitch. And a few tennis balls. What's that all about?

Karim Adeyemi is away and has a great chance to make something happen, but he delays and delays until the Newcastle defence have rallied. His effort has the sting taken off it and Nick Pope saves.

  10. KICK-OFFpublished at 18:48 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2023

    Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Newcastle

A big 45 minutes coming up for Eddie Howe and his team.

It's not a huge surprise to see Newcastle make changes. Miguel Almiron is on for Lewis Hall, who was booked early on in the first half.

Kieran Trippier to left back and Tino Livramento to the right side of defence?

Anthony Gordon is also on, for Callum Wilson.

    HT: Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Newcastle

Borussia Dortmund have stopped the opposition from scoring a first-half goal in 4 of their 4 games, more than any other in the 2023-2024 Champions League.

Newcastle United have failed to score a first-half goal in 3 of their 4 games, no team has failed to do so more often in the 2023-2024 Champions League.

John: Beansy is clearly not a Newcastle fan and someone taking the mick. No one wants rid of Howe, Europe is all about enjoying ourselves, way too early in our journey, as we can see from the bench. Let Howe and the team grow together.

Luke: Beansy with the worst take of the season so far. Deary me!

Gary: Eddie Howe is doing a brilliant job at Newcastle, definitely not out of his depth.

  13. 'Surprise' if Haaland playspublished at 18:43 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2023

Man City v Young Boys (20:00 GMT)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Erling Haaland hurt his ankle towards the end of the first half in Manchester City's 6-1 win over Bouremouth on Saturday and didn't reappear after the interval.

It meant the Norwegian was not involved in any of City's goals as they surged back to the top of the Premier League.

If any club is capable of riding out the loss of such a key player it is City and, with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to come on Sunday, it would be a surprise if Haaland was involved against Young Boys in the Champions League.

But Pep Guardiola wants his top scorer around.

"When he plays, I have the feeling something is going to happen in the box," said the City manager.

"Of course, he is important. I want Erling on the pitch. Erling would have played the second half."

  14. Barca behind at the breakpublished at 18:41 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2023

    HT: Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 Barcelona

Shakhtar Donetsk lead Barcelona at the break thanks to Danylo Sikan's looping header.

It's been an even match so far in Hamburg and when the hosts got their chance in the 40th minute, they took it.

Last season, Shakhtar were seconds away from beating Real Madrid at home only to be denied by a late Antonio Rüdiger leveller.

They're looking to go one better against Real's rivals. Barca remember only need a point to guarantee a place in the Champions League round of 16.

  15. 'Howe will have a bit of thinking to do'published at 18:40 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2023

    HT: Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Newcastle

    Neil Lennon
Former Celtic manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

Borussia Dortmund are a slick team especially in the final third. But Newcastle are right in this and have had a couple of great chances themselves.

Eddie Howe will have a bit of thinking to do at half-time with changes. He has got Miguel Almiron and Anthony Gordon. He won't be happy but when you put out a defensive team you got to get players on to speed things up in attack.

  16. Newcastle second best everywherepublished at 18:39 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2023

    HT: Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Newcastle

    Harry De Cosemo
BBC Sport at Signal Iduna Park

Dortmund fully on top at the break. Bruno Guimaraes has had flashes of influence but Newcastle don’t really look like getting back into this at the moment.

Callum Wilson has barely been in the game; Tino Livramento has looked good on the right.

Lewis Hall is clearly a little overawed, but it is worth noting that Newcastle have maybe six starters missing and he has been thrust in here.

They need something to change though else it might be Europa League at best in the New Year.

Oh, Newcastle almost do nick that equaliser!

The first header is won by a man in green at the back post as Jamaal Lascelles heads Kieran Trippier's initial delivery back into the middle.

Joelinton heads towards goal but he can't generate the power and precision to beat Gregor Kobel.

If Newcastle can nick a leveller before the break that would be magnificent for them.

It's crucial they don't concede again, though.
