Former Chelsea striker Timo Werner is missing tonight with an adductor injury.

However, even if he had been fit, the best he could have hoped for is a place on the bench.

Werner has been linked with a loan move in January, which may well appeal as he wants to make the Germany squad for next summer's European Championships.

Manchester United and West Ham have been mentioned. He is more likely to play at the latter than the former I would have thought.

Manchester City's players are walking out in retro shirts - a nod to the past when Colin Bell, Francis Lee and Mike Summerbee were writing their names in club folklore.

A statue dedicated to the legends was unveiled earlier today outside Etihad Stadium.

The big screen is paying a tribute in pictures to Colin Bell, Francis Lee and Mike Summerbee, who had a statue unveiled in their honour earlier.

I spoke to Summerbee, the only surviving member of City's 1968 title-winning team - the best the club had until the current generation evolved under the ownership of Sheikh Mansour - earlier.

"We were part of a team, us three," he said.

"We had a fantastic manager and coach at the time, a superb side.

"You are talking about two exceptional players there who aren’t here today. We were a top side, we won all the trophies and enjoyed it.

"All great football clubs have history. Now we’ve got a different history.

"We were a good side, great players, but there is another era now and this side is as good as you’ll ever see."

  16. Reminder of what they need...published at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2023

Here's a reminder of what the English teams need tonight.

Newcastle can't qualify if they lose to Paris St-Germain.

They will be confirmed in fourth place if they lose and AC Milan beat Borussia Dortmund.

If Eddie Howe's side draw tonight, it will go down to the final game against AC Milan at St James' Park.

Manchester City are through to the last 16. They will be confirmed as group winners if they avoid defeat against RB Leipzig.

  18. Plans to introduce sin-binspublished at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2023

    Alex Howell
    BBC Sport reporter

Plans for football to introduce 10-minute sin-bins for cynical fouls and dissent have been recommended for trialling in the professional game.

The game's lawmakers, the International Football Association Board (Ifab), said it will "identify which levels are best to test".

The trial will also include a rule allowing only the team captain to approach the referee during a game.

Sin-bins have been trialled at grassroots level since 2019.

The proposals were announced at an Ifab meeting in London on Tuesday and are subject to approval at their Annual General Meeting in March 2024.

Paris St-Germain’s first encounter with Newcastle was their 4-1 defeat on matchday two of this season’s Champions League.

Newcastle could become the first team to win home and away against PSG in a Champions League group stage campaign since CSKA Moscow in 2004-05.

Newcastle are yet to score away from home in the Champions League this season.

Kylian Mbappe has been involved in seven goals in 12 Champions League appearances against English sides, scoring five and assisting two.
