October has been a nervous month to be a Championship manager.

Five teams have parted ways with their boss, with the latest two coming in as many days over the weekend.

First, Gareth Ainsworth was shown the door by QPR after a defeat by Leicester on Saturday meant he had won only five of his 28 games in charge of the R's since being appointed in February, after 11 years at Wycombe.

And we've just found out his replacement - see 20:58 GMT.

Bristol City sacked Nigel Pearson yesterday after the Robins lost five of their past seven matches. The 60-year-old had been in charge since February 2021 which made him the second-longest serving manager in the division.

The longest-serving? That honour belongs to Coventry boss Mark Robins, who has been at the helm of the Sky Blues since March 2017.

The other Championship bosses to lose their jobs in October were Sheffield Wednesday's Xisco Munoz, John Eustace and Gary Rowett.

Some breaking managerial news for you.

Queens Park Rangers have appointed Hammarby boss Marti Cifuentes as their new head coach.

The 41-year-old replaces Gareth Ainsworth who was sacked on Saturday after a sixth straight Championship loss left them 23rd in the table.

Spaniard Cifuentes was in charge of the Swedish top-flight side for two years.

Coventry boss Mark Robins has a bit of repair work to do here at half-time.

The Sky Blues came into this on the back of successive away defeats, although still protecting an unbeaten home record. But they are not quite clicking up front.

City have not lost three league games on the spin since the dark early days of last season when they were playing most of their matches away from Coventry.

The way this one is going they will do keep up that home record. They do at least still have the attacking threat of fit-again Callum O'Hare to bring off the bench. That ought to give everyone a lift, if he has cause to see action.

  4. 'Albion have defended for their lives'published at 20:51 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2023

Albion started well and could have been a couple up but it's been a defensive job for most of the half after they scored. They have been defending for their lives as Coventry pushed forward at every opportunity.

Everyone for Albion is in their own half. Carlos Corberan will have to put one or two things right. I don't think the front lads are getting involved in the game for Albion.

It's been a very open game and of course Albion will be the happier team with that lead.

  5. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:50 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2023

Grady Diangana celebrates scoring for West BromImage source, Rex Features

A Coventry corner is wasted and the half-time whistle goes.

Home keeper Ben Wilson's mistake allowed West Brom to take the lead through Grady Diangana after 17 minutes in what was a fast start by the visitors.

But they sat back on the lead and Coventry pushed onwards, with Haji Wright among those to test Alex Palmer in the Baggies' goal.

There's not much in it so we should be in for a good second half.

  6. YELLOW CARD: Cedric Kipre (West Brom)published at 45+1 mins

    Coventry 0-1 West Brom

Baggies defender Cedric Kipre goes into the book for dissent after disagreeing with the referee on if that was a foul on Tatsuhiro Sakamoto.

There's a bit of pushing and shoving between Pipa and Liam Kitching too.

Not seen much needle up until that point!

  7. 'Corberan will want half-time'published at 20:46 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2023

    Tony Brown

Jamie Allen is on the edge of the box and nobody is with him. It's criminal. Nobody is taking responsibilty. That's something that will have to be spoken about in the dressing room.

Carlos Corberan will want the half-time whistle so he can sort some things out.

    Coventry 0-1 West Brom

An incisive pass across the box finds Jamie Allen but he can't quite connect well enough with it.

West Brom keeper Alex Palmer makes the comfortable save.

Can Coventry make one of these openings count before the break?

West Brom are sitting back and soaking it all up for now.

Haji Wright is keeping the West Brom defenders honest.

He's playing on the shoulder of the last man and is making decent runs in behind.

The Los Angeles-born striker gets it wrong that time and is flagged offside but he's carrying the threat for the hosts.

Wright scored 14 goals in the Turkish Super Lig for Antalyaspor last season.

Nice place to play football, or just relax on the beach...

  10. YELLOW CARD Nathaniel Chalobah (West Brom)published at 36 mins

    Coventry 0-1 West Brom

First caution of the game as Nathaniel Chalobah goes into the referee's notebook for kicking the ball away after the whistle had been blown.

    Silly? Yes.

    Costly? Time will tell.

  11. CLOSE!published at 35 mins

    Coventry 0-1 West Brom

    More chances for Coventry!

And it's Haji Wright involved again.

This time his first touch is good and he gets a shot away which is saved well by Alex Palmer.

Then Tatsuhiro Sakamoto picks up the rebound but his effort is blocked.

The hosts are getting closer and are creating chances.

They just need to take one before the break.

  12. 'Sky Blues growing into the game'published at 20:37 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2023

    Coventry 0-1 West Brom

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at The Hawthorns

Subdued mood here at the CBS Arena after the shock of that opening Albion goal just as the hosts looked like they were starting to find their feet.

It seemed to have a soporific effect on both home fans and players alike, but there are a few encouraging signs that they might be growing back into the game again.

The home drums are just starting to thump again.

  13. 'West Brom are rattled'published at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2023

    Coventry 0-1 West Brom

    Steve Ogrizovic
Ex-Coventry City goalkeeper on BBC CWR

That was the best chance so far. West Brom are rattled and it's all Coventry at the minute. I thought Wright was going to score but he couldn't quite get it right under pressure from a couple of defenders.

Nobody wants to be behind in a game but the signs are good, they are on the front foot and they are going to score a goal or two if West Brom keep this up.

  14. Postpublished at 31 mins

    Coventry 0-1 West Brom

Half-an-hour in and Coventry are the ones pressing for a goal.

West Brom started brilliantly and deservedly went ahead but have sat back since.

More penalty shouts - more from the crowd than the players it must be said - as Coventry's Haji Wright goes down in the box.

Nothing doing but moments later Wright is found in the box again, this time in space, but tries a difficult effort with the outside of his boot and it trickles wide.

Best opening so far for the hosts.

  15. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Coventry 0-1 West Brom

The diminutive Jay Dasilva hustles and bustles his way through tacklers and is chopped down on the edge of the box.

The referee plays the advantage allowing Ben Sheaf another sight of goal from the edge of the box.

But again his radar is off and it's over the bar.

  16. 'Coventry are pressing Albion well'published at 20:31 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2023

    Coventry 0-1 West Brom

    Tony Brown
West Brom's all-time record goalscorer on BBC Radio WM

Albion just can't get out of their own half at this moment in time. Coventry are pressing them back.

You need people up front where you can knock it into their feet and they can hold it, keep it in the Coventry half. There's nobody who can do that.

  17. Postpublished at 25 mins

    Coventry 0-1 West Brom

Ben Sheaf sends a shot over the top from distance.

Coventry are starting to push the visitors back now after a slow start.

  18. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Coventry 0-1 West Brom

The hosts are improving now and have responded well to going behind.

Haji Wright, the man faced with the tough task of replacing the goals of Viktor Gyokeres for Coventry, tries a spin to get away from the defence but he's well-marshalled.

Baggies midfielder Nathaniel Cholabah is just down getting a bit of treatment.

  19. 'Coventry do look dangerous'published at 20:26 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2023

    Coventry 0-1 West Brom

    Steve Ogrizovic
Ex-Coventry City goalkeeper on BBC CWR

The one good thing about this game so far is that although Coventry are a goal behind, they do look dangerous going forward.

I don't want to be too critical of Coventry because West Brom have been very, very good in the first 23 minutes.

Although it's 1-0 there are signs Coventry can get back in the game.

  20. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Coventry 0-1 West Brom

Grady Diangana may be finding form again.

That's his second goal in as many games after not having scored since February against.... you guessed it, Coventry.

That goal was the winner in a 1-0 victory.
