Newcastle v Burnley (Sat, 15:00 BST)

After conceding just 33 goals throughout all of last campaign, the joint least total alongside eventual Treble-winners Manchester City, Newcastle were more leaky at the start of the current campaign.

However, after conceding against Aston Villa, Manchester City, Liverpool and Brighton, the Magpies have kept four consecutive clean sheets in all competitions.

This run has included an away draw against AC Milan in the Champions League and Wednesday night's 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.

Burnley are the side who visit St. James' Park this weekend, with Vincent Kompany's team having picked up only one point in the league so far.

  7. Bournemouth v Arsenal: Andoni Iraola set for Mikel Arteta reunionpublished at 10:10 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

Bournemouth v Arsenal (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola stirs up memories of his youth by spending time on the south coast's breezy beaches - and this weekend there will be another reminder of his early days when he faces childhood friend Mikel Arteta in the Premier League.

The pair are part of a remarkable group of managers to have come from the tiny Gipuzkoa area of northern Spain.

One of those bosses, Julen Lopetegui, left Wolves before the season began, but Unai Emery remains at Aston Villa.

Yet their shared roots in the Basque Country are eclipsed by the bond that unites Iraola, Arsenal manager Arteta and Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, the former Liverpool and Spain midfielder. The trio all played youth football for amateur club Antiguoko at the same time.

"It was a very nice period," Iraola told BBC Sport.

"You are eight, nine, 10 years old and you are playing with your friends on the beach. We didn't have these hopes when we were playing. We were just kids playing football."

    • The Cherries are winless in 10 Premier League matches (D3 L7), the longest ongoing run of any current top-flight side. Since the start of May, they have collected five fewer points (3) than any other ever-present team.
    • Only Everton (0) have scored fewer home Premier League goals this season than Bournemouth (1), with the Cherries underperforming their expected goal total on home soil by 2.1 (one goal scored vs 3.1 xG).
    • Bukayo Saka has either scored (4) or assisted (2) in six of his last seven Premier League appearances for Arsenal, and has 17 goals and 13 assists in 41 appearances since the start of last season. However, Bournemouth are one of only three sides he’s faced without scoring against in the competition.

  10. 'We know each other really well'published at 09:56 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

Bournemouth v Arsenal (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking about Andoni Iraola: "We know each other really well. We have played together. We are privileged to be raised there [in the Basque region] and be educated there. That's the beauty of football that now we are both managing in the Premier League."

On the Basque region: "It is the passion about football, about the region. They really take care of the academy. They do fantastic work to raise talent and it's not a coincidence a lot of talent comes from that region."

How good was Iraola as a player?

"He was better technically than everybody else. He was a winger and then as he got older he played full-back. He would be a dream inverted full-back for any manager!

"He was really excited to come and really supportive of the players and staff and coming to the Premier League."

  20. WSL predictions: Bristol City to strugglepublished at 09:02 British Summer Time 29 September 2023

    The WSL returns this weekend

    Emma Sanders
    BBC Sport

    Predicted finish: 12th

There is no denying Bristol City have talent in their squad, but it is very youthful and the jump from the Women's Championship to the WSL is a big one. Head coach Lauren Smith, who has never led a team in the top flight before, has done an excellent job so far at the club, but this will be a huge test for her and her young squad. They will need to win games against teams around them in the table if they are going to survive, but I think the Premier League-owned clubs will be able to spend the money they need in January to avoid relegation if it comes to that.
