Rangers interim boss Steven Davis tells TNT Sports: "I know the players, their strengths and weaknesses, so we want to find the platform that gives the best chance to perform to the best of their ability.

"I just want to see the lads express themselves in the forward areas. It's been a hectic couple of days. We're in a difficult moment, not a place we'd like to be, but we have a chance to turn it around tonight.

"I like Scott [Wright] - I've trained and played with him. He's not had the easiest time at the club but I know the quality he has."

Despite Rangers' very decent, and recent, Europa League record, they've only won two of their last 17 away games across all European competitions.

That includes just one of their last eight in the Europa League proper, which came in that memorable 4-2 win at Borussia Dortmund in 2021-22.

Feels like a lifetime ago now.

Abdallah Sima has scored four goals in his last five group stage appearances in the Europa League, three for Slavia Prague in 2020-21 and Rangers' winner against Real Betis matchday one this season.

Aris Limassol boss Aleksey Shpilevsky has warned his side that "it's always dangerous to face a team in the first game after they have a new coach".

"It might bring the team closer together and bring a new energy to the side," he added.

"We are looking forward to this game against an amazing team, 18 months ago they were in the Europa League final and 70% of the squad is still there.

"It is a big opponent, strong opponent, but we will be aggressive and offensive."

Things are not going altogether swimmingly for Aris Limassol off the back of their first-ever title win last season.

They lost to city rivals Apollon at the weekend, the third time they had dropped points in their opening six league fixtures.

In Europe for just the second time, having lost a Conference League qualifying tie against Neftci Baku last season, they also dropped down from the Champions League qualifiers before beating Slovan Bratislava to qualify for their first group stage.

They gave Sparta Prague a decent run for their money on matchday one before eventually losing 3-2 in the Czech capital, so it would be folly to presume Rangers are going to turn up and comfortably take care of business.

Michael Beale's recruitment is ultimately what cost him his job, so those players have a point to prove.

If you want a future at Rangers then the levels have to be higher. You would expect a reaction.

On Tuesday, we learned that former Chelsea and Everton manager Frank Lampard is interested in replacing Michael Beale at Rangers.

Ex-England boss Sam Allardyce has also suggested he would be keen on talks with the Ibrox board.

"If they came and asked me, it would be an honour," he told the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast (yep, that's what it's really called).

"Speaking to Alex McLeish and Sir Alex Ferguson about it, it is just an unbelievable football club.

"Not that I'm actively promoting myself for the job, but clearly it's not gone well."

It went down well, as you can imagine.

Rangers captain James Tavernier feels the appointment of his former team-mate Steven Davis as interim manager will inspire his players.

"We all admire him so much as a player and as a person", Tavernier told BBC Scotland.

"I'm sure all the lads in the dressing room will give him everything that he requires, especially for [tonight].

The inclusion of Wright and Sima gives Rangers pace at the top end of the park.

It's an attacking looking side, but I think the key will be Lundstram and Raskin in the middle. They will allow the full-backs to get forward.

Steven Davis has named his first-ever starting XI as a manager, and it's a bold one.
