It's only right that Duk comes back and plays up top. That will be the main threat for Aberdeen, Duk and Miovski. They link well together, and Barry Robson got a tune out of them last season.

Duk has the pace, drive, directness. Miovski knows exactly where to be and is more than capable of taking any chance that comes their way.

The belief must be high after the performances recently. They look solid at the back, creative in midfield too. They go in confident and this is the one that they'll be targeting three points from.

  8. Robson hoping to build on European historypublished at 19:59 British Summer Time 5 October 2023

    Aberdeen v HJK Helsinki (20:00)

Aberdeen boss Barry Robson is hopeful of another historic European night at Pittodrie tonight, speaking to TNT Sports, he said: "I think the club has been built on tradition in Europe and we have had some great nights here over the years.

"I have managed to play a few here myself and we can have some special nights.

When talking about Duk's inclusion tonight, Robson added: "He is a ball carrier and brings speed, he is a dangerous player and loves playing at home.

"We are trying to play our best players as much as we can. This is a game I thought he would always feature in because of the way that he plays.

When asked about the threat of their opponents, Robson said: "I have watched lots of them, they have got some real quality players. We know it is a difficult games for us."

    Aberdeen v HJK Helsinki (20:00)

    • This is the first ever meeting between Aberdeen and HJK, with the Scottish side winning both previous games against teams from Finland in European competitions: 2-1 home and away against RoPS in the 2019-20 Europa League qualifying stage.
    • Scottish clubs have won all four previous home games against Finnish sides in major European competitions by an aggregate score of 18-0, with this game being the first since Celtic beat HJK in the UEFA Cup first round in September 2000 (2-0).
    • Aberdeen have won just one of their last 14 games in major European competitions (D7 L6), however, they are unbeaten in their last five such matches at home (W1 D4).
    • HJK have won just one of their previous 14 away group matches in European competition (D2 L11), conceding 2.4 goals per game on average and never keeping a clean sheet.
    • Aberdeen registered a 22% share of possession against Eintracht Frankfurt two weeks ago, the joint lowest in the history of the Europa Conference League (excl. qualifiers).

Bojan Radulovic is likely to be HJK's main goal threat

Finnish champions HJK pushed PAOK in their Group G opener, eventually losing 3-2 at home to the Greek side having led in the first half.

It is the only loss in their past seven games and they have scored in each of their last 12 matches, while Aberdeen have only kept two clean sheets in the same number of games.

Spain-born Serbian striker Bojan Radulovic will provide the main threat, having scored 22 goals in 36 games this season, one of which came in that loss to PAOK.

There is also plenty of international experience in Helsinki ranks, particularly in defence. Centre-backs Joona Toivio and Jukka Raitala have well over 50 caps for Finland and played all three games at Euro 2020 as the Finns made a mark at their first major tournament.

It is also HJK's third straight season playing in the group stages of European competition. However, most of Helsinki's success in continental competition has come at home.

They have lost all four of their European away games in 90 minutes this season, which includes visits to Northern Irish champions Larne, Molde of Norway, Qarabag of Azerbaijan and Romanian side Farul Constanta.

  11. Aberdeen having a go?published at 19:50 British Summer Time 5 October 2023

    Aberdeen v HJK Helsinki (20:00)

    Tyrone Smith
    BBC Scotland at Pittodrie

Prior to the Aberdeen team being announced, the big question was would Barry Robson stick with just Bojan Miovski up top or play both him and Duk?

The fact he has gone for the latter suggests they are very much going to try and be on the front foot.

And why not? The Dons should be going into this one full of confidence and positivity after recent results and performances.

Duk comes into the Aberdeen XI tonight

Barry Robson makes just the one change to the side that picked up that big win at Ibrox at the weekend.

Out goes Dante Polvara, who scored on matchday one as Aberdeen ran Eintracht Frankfurt close in Germany.

He's replaced by Duk - the man who looked back to his best the last time Robson's side ran out at Pittodrie, a 4-0 win over Ross County.

Another goal and assist would set Aberdeen right on their way tonight.

At not one point in the game have Rangers had sustained pressure. It's been fits and starts.

It's been better in the second half but it wouldn't be hard to beat the first-half performance. They don't deserve an equaliser.
