  1. FULL-TIME Spain 2-0 Scotlandpublished at 21:44 British Summer Time 12 October 2023

Scotland drop points for the first time in Group A and the wait to secure a place at Euro 2024 goes on.

Spain were the dominant side, pinning Steve Clarke's side back for long spells as they defended for their lives.

Then a huge moment of controversy when Scott McTominay's fabulous free-kick from an outrageous angle was disallowed after a VAR check. We think Jack Hendry was ruled to have fouled the keeper on the line but there was next to no contact.

Alvaro Morata knocked home a smart header on 73 minutes and the unfortunate Ryan Porteous bundled into his own net to seal a 24th consecutive home win in European qualifying for Spain.

    Spain 2-0 Scotland

Spain taking the sting out of the game, just knocking it about.

If it stays like this, the head-to-head between these two is level. The Spanish goal difference is much healthier...

Five minutes added on as Che Adams gets his stretched studs to the ball inside the home penalty box, only to knock the ball wide.

    Spain 2-0 Scotland

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Aaron Hickey has done so well tonight. He's hammered up and down that line, playing three positions.

That's just tiredness, and it's come home to roost. It's just a slip.

It can happen. It's such a shame.

  9. 'Agonising'published at 21:36 British Summer Time 12 October 2023

    Spain 2-0 Scotland

    Michael Stewart
    Former Scotland midfielder on Viaplay

It's a massive slip of misfortune for Scotland.

    Agonising.

GOAL Spain 2-0 Scotlandpublished at 21:34 British Summer Time 12 October 2023

    Ryan Porteous OG

    Calamity.

Aaron Hickey, Scotland's standout performer, slips under no pressure at all and the visitors are caught short from the the resulting cross.

Ryan Porteous slides in to try and intervene but can only bundle the ball into his own net from close in.

It seemed to fall perfectly for Armstrong, but what an interception that is from Rodri.

Now Stuart Armstrong has a chance, flinging himself at the ball in front of goal, but Rodri gets a vital touch away.

  15. 'Adams should score'published at 21:30 British Summer Time 12 October 2023

    Spain 1-0 Scotland

    Steven Thompson
Former Scotland striker on BBC Sportsound

He's got to do better there.

He's about seven yards out, unmarked. It's such poor contact.

  16. Postpublished at 21:30 British Summer Time 12 October 2023

    Spain 1-0 Scotland

Aaron Hickey, who has been near superhuman this evening, twists one way then another in the Spain penalty area. His shot lands perfectly for Che Adams but the substitute can only prod the ball at the keeper from close range.

  18. Postpublished at 21:26 British Summer Time 12 October 2023

    Spain 1-0 Scotland

A bit of confusion over the disallowed goal, with the TV commentators now saying it was offside after all.

We didn't see any lines drawn on the screen and it was just Jack Hendry and the keeper, so I'm not so sure.

  20. 'Morata keeps going'published at 21:24 British Summer Time 12 October 2023

    Spain 1-0 Scotland

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Navas goes down the line. He was never known as being a particularly good crosser, but he whips one in and Morata keeps on getting there.

He makes a good run, Scotland switch off and he's guided it in brilliantly.
