Neil: In midfield you need a bit of bite, flair and the ability to thread a pass forward. Henderson and Gallagher have completely the opposite.
Anon: On what planet do Gallagher and Henderson play in front of JWP. Bizzare. Henderson’s time is over and Gallagher is nowhere near International quality.

Right, we are back under way.

The England players look like they don't know each other. This has been a very friendly friendly.
There's been no spark and no invention.
But you can understand that, because this is a group who haven't played together.

Australia assistant coach René Meulensteen, speaking to Channel 4: "Very pleased with the performance. We made it very difficult for England, a few hairy moments but every opportunity we could go forward we did.
"It could have been 2-1 or 2-2, but a great game to watch."

Australia haven't even had to play that well.

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins fully earned his England recall with his fine club form and this is a big chance for him tonight but it has been frustration so far.
A defender's slight touch denied him a tap-in and even though he will feel unlucky that his effort from the angle hit the post, he should have put that one away.
Still time though and he is working tirelessly.

Matt: I really don’t get the point in making 11 changes to your preferred starting XI. Make one or two and see if they make a difference to the team. Changing all of them proves nothing.
Theo: England are too process driven… no wonder fans are disconnected. An opportunity to entertain and impress and it’s just lacklustre. Freshen it up Southgate!

It was really flat. This is an opportunity to put your hand up and stake a claim. I don't think anyone can say they've put their hand up and created anything.
But this is the perfect game to play before Italy. It's been a challenge and there's been no space on the pitch.
Credit to Australia, they've come here with a game plan and they've executed it really well.

Grant: The Poms are whinging! At this rate there'll be tears by bed time.
Tom: I might have dozed off and missed it, but it looks like all the best chances in the game have been Australia's. England are just carrying no threat.
Anon: Wow fickle, fickle football fans. We are always crying out to try the other options. Tonight is the ideal chance go with it .The Italy game matters and that will be a totally different line up and a result.

Ryan Strain should score, he should do better in that position. But once again it shows that when England lose possession, they are susceptible at the back.

And at the other end, a brilliantly timed tackle by Harry Souttar to deny Ollie Watkins.
That's the last action of a largely dull first half, bar that bit of excitement right before half time.

Lovely play from Australia but credit to Lewis Dunk, he doesn't give it up. It beats Johnstone but Dunk slides in behind to divert the ball over the bar.

Mercifully there's just the one minute added on at the end of the first half.

Dave: If nothing else this shows why Southgate only makes small adjustments when it matters, and doesn’t listen to all the noise about this player or that player. The team that has played together for the last few years is exactly that, a team. Tonight is what happens when you chuck a load of players together

Superb defending from Lewis Dunk!
Martin Boyle does really well to get away from three defenders and then finds Ryan Strain unmarked inside the box. The St Mirren full-back looks certain to score but his shot is blocked by Dunk's outstretched leg.
England 0-0 Australia
England have a corner, it is played short and into the box where Jarrod Bowen flicks a header towards goal, but it is an easy save for Mat Ryan.
