James Maddison bends the free kick into the box but Harry Souttar heads away.

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Australia's recovery runs are quite brilliant. They flood numbers back and allow players to get back in positions.

England need to continue to move that ball quicker and take people on in one-on-one situations.

  3. YELLOW CARDpublished at 40 mins

    England 0-0 Australia

Jack Grealish plays the ball around Ryan Strain, who pulls back the England forward and is booked as a result.

Alex: Any chance Gallagher and Henderson could try passing the ball to the attacking 4 instead of those behind them? Falling asleep watching this!

Richard: Be ready for substitutions at half-time.

Anon: I just want England to play the ball forward!

  5. Postpublished at 39 mins

    England 0-0 Australia

Australia are really good for getting numbers back quickly and a promising England attack is shut down as the visitors get in their shape. Levi Colwill looks a bit frustrated as he assesses options for a pass, but not much is on.

It's not really worked for this much changed England side so far. They've threatened in flashes but you can see this team hasn't played together much.

I don't think there's any need for two yellow cards in that situation.

Adam: Cricket is my number one sport though I like football. I hated it when Sven's reserve side lost to Australia 20 years ago and I shuddered when I saw tonight's England line up. Never give the Aussies a sniff. Ever.

Sam: Have the Aussies selected Duke for their attack because they think he might offer something in English conditions, or am I mixing up my sports?

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 32 mins

    England 0-0 Australia

Levi Colwill commits a foul and then suddenly gets involved in a bit of pushing and shoving with Keanu Baccus. Both players are booked as a result.

    England 0-0 Australia

    Paul Robinson

Australia are playing a really high line and for the first time it was breached.

A great pass from James Maddison too.

  14. Postpublished at 20:18 British Summer Time 13 October 2023

    England 0-0 Australia

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It wasn't offside! Ollie Watkins timed the run to perfection as he ran in behind. He did so well but credit to Mathew Ryan who pushed Watkins as wide as he could.

    Great attacking play by England.

Mike: Maybe Southgate should take a leaf out of the u21 book who showed last night that actually playing front foot attacking football is the best for of defence.

Luke: Games like this should be a chance for England to put the world on notice as to how dominant they can be. At the moment, the world has nothing to worry about.

Don: I can't help but feel that if Raheem Sterling was in this England team he would've carved through the Australian defence by now. Where's the running at Australia? They lack inventiveness at the moment.

  20. Postpublished at 25 mins

    England 0-0 Australia

Ahh the classic look at the turf after a shocking shot from James Maddison there.

The Tottenham man is away down the left, he cuts inside and shapes to shoot but skews his shot way, way, way, way wide.

The surface is wet, I'll give him that, but not one for the highlights reel.
