  1. Australia make good startpublished at 20:11 British Summer Time 13 October 2023

    England 0-0 Australia

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Wembley

It's been a quiet start but Australia are certainly not sitting back. They have had their chances with Sam Johnstone's fine save from Keanu Baccus and that volley from Mitchell Duke.

Duke held his head in his hands. He could not believe that did not go in.

  2. 'Johnstone got nowhere near it'published at 20:10 British Summer Time 13 October 2023

    England 0-0 Australia

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

This was unbelievably unlucky. He wrapped his foot around it and the connection was outstanding. It must have skimmed the outside of the post, Sam Johnstone got nowhere near it.

That's a reminder of the quality Australia posses.

  3. CLOSE!published at 23 mins

    England 0-0 Australia

    So close!

Australia are inches away from taking the lead as Mitchell Duke connects really sweetly with the ball but sends his shot just wide of the right post.

Duke has his head in his hands because that was very close to being the opener for the visitors.

Peter: If this is the audition for Tuesday night, so far we are only watching understudies.

  5. Postpublished at 21 mins

    England 0-0 Australia

Decent ball over the top by Lewis Dunk as he tries to find the run of Jarrod Bowen but Australia goalkeeper Mat Ryan is off his line quickly to get to the ball first.

    England 0-0 Australia

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Australia have turned over the ball so often because of the great press that they have.

They give you a feeling that you have to force the ball, because of how tight they are.

You feel you have to play a through-the-eye-of-the-needle ball and that's what Australia will want you to do.

  7. Postpublished at 19 mins

    England 0-0 Australia

Admittedly, it is a bit boring.

Miles: Same old same old boring rubbish from England.

We've still only played 20 minutes Miles!

    England 0-0 Australia

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Craig Goodwin sees Trent Alexander-Arnold is going into midfield. Australia know every time they win the ball back they can put it into that left channel for Goodwin to drive forward.

  10. Postpublished at 17 mins

    England 0-0 Australia

Craig Goodwin sends the ball in from the corner but the whistle goes for a foul on Jordan Henderson.

  11. Postpublished at 16 mins

    England 0-0 Australia

The atmosphere isn't the greatest at the moment and you can really just hear the gentle murmur of conversation in the stands.

There's actually more excitement for the Australian fans as they win a second corner, up come the centre-backs...

  12. Postpublished at 14 mins

    England 0-0 Australia

Trent Alexander-Arnold, stepping into the middle, plays the ball forward to Jarrod Bowen, who then tries to find Conor Gallagher but an Australia defender gets in the way.

  13. 'A really good save'published at 20:01 British Summer Time 13 October 2023

    England 0-0 Australia

    Paul Robinson
Former Tottenham and England goalkeeper on Radio 5 Live

That will give Sam Johnstone so much confidence, it really will.

Because the defender gets a touch on it he has to take an extra step. It was a really, really good save.

  14. Postpublished at 12 mins

    England 0-0 Australia

Mitchell Duke gets two bites of the cherry inside the box from the corner as England struggle to clear, but his second effort is an easy save for Sam Johnstone.

It's taken this England team a while to settle, as you'd expect. It's a new team playing together.

  16. GREAT SAVE!published at 10 mins

    England 0-0 Australia

To be fair to Ollie Watkins, it looks like a little touch of the ball off a defender meant he couldn't set his feet right.

At the other end, Sam Johnstone makes a really good save to push away Keanu Baccus' drive that takes a little deflection.

    Australia have a corner.

Chris: And there in one moment is exactly why Ollie Watkins will never play at the highest level.

  18. Postpublished at 19:57 British Summer Time 13 October 2023

    England 0-0 Australia

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's really good play on the right between Bowen and Gallagher. Gallagher makes a clever run into the box and it's a clever ball in.

Ollie Watkins has a simple tap-in but Harry Souttar does enough to put him off.

  19. CLOSE!published at 8 mins

    England 0-0 Australia

Really good chance for England to take the lead as a nice passage of play down the right sees Jarrod Bowen slip the ball into the box for Conor Gallagher, who drives it across the face of goal but neither James Maddison or Ollie Watkins can turn in.

Good move, though, England went up through the gears quickly there.

  20. Postpublished at 6 mins

    England 0-0 Australia

Lewis Dunk makes an important clearing header to deal with a fairly dangerous cross.

This has been an encouraging start by Australia.
