Football really is becoming a shambles isn't it. Fans don't know what the rules are going to be, from one game to the next, and the chances are neither do these officials. Taking all enjoyment out of the game.
Tom
There were 3 reasons not to give that goal and VAR has ignored every one of them. That is absolutely criminal!
Nathan, Oxford
Have no dog in this fight but that's a shocker of a VAR call: ball was out and blatant offside too.

Newcastle 1-0 Arsenal
Arsenal try to serve up a quick response as they win a couple of corners. The latest delivery is sent to the near post, where it hits an Arsenal player and goes behind for a goal kick.
Newcastle 1-0 Arsenal
A few bellies are out in the stands and shirts are being twirled over heads as Newcastle fans get to celebrate twice with the goal and the VAR decision.
Can Newcastle hold on? This will be a huge win if they do.

Re: Naz @ 18:46 - which example of our anti-football do you prefer: the 4-1 win against PSG, 8-0 stomping of Sheffield United or beating Man U 3-0? It's not anti-football just because Eddie Howe has the tactical knowledge to shut you down...

Wow.
It's great for the game to have a goal but how can you give that? Wow.
There haven't been a lot of talking points in this game so far. Well, we have a big one now.
Newcastle 1-0 Arsenal
The decision stands!
Var decides that:
The ball didn't go out of play.
Joelinton did not commit a foul.
Anthony Gordon was not offside.

Ball out of play and push in box no goal shame...

Well, I think VAR is satisfied Joelinton didn't push over Gabriel, so all that is left is to decide if Anthony Gordon was offside. He didn't look it to me.
Newcastle 1-0 Arsenal
VAR checks that the ball didn't go out of play before the cross and they are satifised it didn't but did Joelinton foul in the build up?
Was Anthony Gordon offside?
All are being checked.

I think there will be a VAR check on this because a lot of things happened throughout that move.
There were pushes, the ball looked like it may have gone out of play from Murphy's shot, then the challenge into the back of White from Joelinton almost on the goal line.
Anthony Gordon
The tactical switch immediately pays dividends!
Jacob Murphy's wayward shot is just about kept in play by Joe Willock and the cross is headed down by Joelinton, who appears to push Gabriel, but Anthony Gordon scrambles in.
Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
Newcastle make a couple of changes as Joe Willock and Jacob Murphy are on for Callum Wilson and Miguel Almirón.
Anthony Gordon has moved into the central striker role.
Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
Half a chance for Arsenal as Gabriel Martinelli's floated cross to the back post is headed away but only to Declan Rice, who heads wide.

Bruno Guimarães has to be edging closer to a booking as he barges into Jorginho, and then angrily raises his hands to urge the Italian to get up.

So much quality between these sides, plenty of full internationals in both teams but little quality so far.
They seem to have almost cancelled each other out.
Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
Hmm, some chuntering between Callum Wilson and Gabriel after a clash between the two.
Referee Stuart Attwell pauses the game to have a word with them both, basically telling them to stop the chuntering.
Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
We are still waiting for Newcastle to have a shot on target, Anthony Gordon looks like he might get that but his drive at the near post is blocked by a good sliding challenge.

Havertz is walking a very fine line, he is very very lucky to still be on the pitch, he needs to be careful from here on out... both him and Guimarães need to, still... end to end game here's hoping for a goal or two!

Newcastle are at their best when teams come onto them and they hit back on the break.
Wilson holding the ball up, Almiron carrying and Gordon just lacked the finish in the end.
